another pin event question or 2

hello there everyone , it's getting closer to september and I am getting more questions about the pin event, which means....... ya'll are getting more questions LOL. the first couple should be kinda simple for all you repeat attendees.

1. can anyone tell Me what they mean by a "silent auction?"

2. what sort of games do they normally have, and do they give out many pins during the event?

A Silent Auction is where they have the items on display with a sheet of paper next to each item. There generally is a minimum bid requirement as well as a minimum interval listed. First person puts down their name and their bid. Next person puts down their name and a bid that must be equal to or higher than the original bid plus the interval. This continues until a certain pre-announced time when the auction is closed. The highest bidder wins. Note that all bids are actual bids and not similar to a maximum bid on eBay.

For example, if there is a minimum bid of $100 and an interval of $25 the bidding could go like this: $100, $125, $175, $200, $300, $350, $375, $900. In this case the high bidder would pay $900, not the $400 as it would on eBay.

Normally you will get game tickets; each game is a ball toss or some other innocuous game. The prize you win will be a pin in an envelope. Generally you will get about five or six game coupons. They may be a roving CM running a trivia contest and giving out pins for correct answers. There also may be some audience participation competitions where winners get framed sets.
