I am getting conflicting information and need to be straightened out! I joined a photopass share for December for DLR, but have been told by the group leader that we have to pre-order our CD and it will cost $99.

From what I have read, I don't think this is right! :confused3 But, I want to be able to edit and add borders and stuff to my pics. Can I only do that with the pre-order?

I am new to photopass and wish I had known about it sooner (no pics of DH and my trip to DLR together) so I could have used it on our other visits.

So, any help is appreciated.

Shannon :)

hmm.. as far as I know the photopass cd is only $59.95 plus $5 shipping through Disney..so the $99 figure seems off:confused3

I will assume that your share is being shared by people going to WDW. When you go there, the cost of the CD ordering it after the trip is almost 125. So you pre-order it for 99.

But at DLR you can order it after the fact, with all the edits, for 59.95 at last check (although I have no pix in my account, I have DLR photopass card ID numbers in there so I'm "branded" for DLR and can see the DLR price).

Sharing, even if the total is 99, will be less expensive for you. Sharing is the way I found the beauty of Photopass. But it takes longer, and unless you're the Leader it's full of bitten fingernails, wondering how everyone is doing and so on. For me it's worth it to just buy it on my own b/c I find it to be a value, and not having to wait for everyone to go and get back and edit makes it more of a value.

Now, if your share leader and your group is full of people ONLY going to DLR, then they are just flat out wrong, and will be paying way too much for something they should just order after-the-fact for 59.95 (unless they play with the prices again).

IA with bumber- if you're sharing and some of the people are going to WDW, then yes you want to pre-order. If it is all disneyland then you do not want to pre-order

Thanks! That was what I thought. I think I will opt out of that photopass share - I agree about the value of it, but don't want to pay so much more if I don't have to. It is a DLR photopass that I found on the budget boards, but it is also in with a lot of WDW photopass people and I think that is where the mix-up is. It seems totally different at DLR than WDW.

Yep, the prince for the WDW PhotoPass CD is quite a bit more than the DLR one. If you want to join a share, I would look for a DLR only one as the price then is $59.95...

I've never purchased a photopass CD from DL...only from WDW. If it's only 59.95, I definitely want one. Is it best to purchase in advance or can I wait until I get home and then decide and still get the 59.95 price? When I bought my WDW CD in 2005, you couldn't add on the borders and stuff...can you do that now?

TIA

From everything I have read in order to prepare myself for photopass for our Dec. trip - Do not purchase from DLR in advance. You will be paying waaaayyy too much money. You can add the borders and edit after you get back and get it for $59.95.

I agree with you, bumbershoot, and have always just bought one on my own because I feel it is a good service and don't want to end up going through any hassles by trying a share.
There is a question that I have always wanted to ask so since this thread pertains to Photopass questions.... I think I will. I'm going to go get on my flameproof suit first... :firefight
Not that I care if people want to save a few bucks but how can shared Photopasses not be against Disney policy? I just find it hard to imagine that Disney ever intended for there to be shares where they didn't reap the profit from each individual family.

Again, please don't get me wrong, I definitely don't want to start an argument. I've just always wondered. :scratchin

Well, sharing in a 99 purchase is going to be less expensive than paying almost 60 all by yourself. So don't shoot yourself in the wallet by giving that share up before finding an All DLR Share first!

People who don't like shares can read the terms of the CD in a way that makes it *seem* that it's against policy.

People who don't mind shares or like participating in them read the same policy and get something different out of it.

You can't *sell* the CD or the photos from it. So the anti crowd says that you're selling the pictures and/or CD. The pro/neutral crowd says that when people "go in" on something, you're not selling anything. You're going in on a big cost, and then giving each person their part of it.

Think of it this way. If you have a large family reunion, you're going to want to all go in on a CD together, right? I'll use my family with this. When we go to WDW, we'll probably be in Orlando for around 2 weeks. We have family in Orlando and Port Orange, and although we would probably set up "camp" on-site at WDW (possibly in their campground!), we would have some time with my one cousin and her mom staying at ASMusic, some other time with day trips from the Orlando local cousins, and so on. It would be an ever-flowing trip for us. We would want ONE CD.

So we would all go in on it together, then when we got the pictures online, Laura, Christine, Amanda, and I will likely all go in and edit whatever pictures we wanted to edit, and then we would order. Since I'm the one with the most time and ease in seeing things (one cousin has congenital cataracts, and the others are busier than I am) I would be the one to order. Now me being me, I would very likely just have us all order our OWN CD from the system, which means an extra $20 each. I don't like having to get my own cases or worry about if I'm doing it right. So since you CAN order extra copies of it, I would do that.

But that original investment would be shared in. I wouldn't be selling the pix to my cousins, we all "went in" on it with each other.

So if you think about Dis'ers as a big family with a free-flowing reunion going on, you can see how it works.

And you can see how absolutely NASTY it could get, if Disney decided to take it upon themselves to decide what groups were family and which groups were not. Especially with a big Irish-plus family like mine, where you get every combo in basic caucasian looks you can get...one cousin looks like Snow White, her full sister looks different, I have tortoiseshell cat hair color and pink skin, another cousin's dad is Mexican and Mayan so she looks NOTHING like the rest of us, but her children DO. My hubby is half Korean and looks it, and our son has red hair! I would LOVE to see Disney try to figure out if we were, actually, all one family.

Now the one thing I wouldn't mind, mainly because it would simplify shares, would be to have the trips all be closer together. So it's more of a shared trip, not just a "I'll be there this week you'll be there next week" thing.

But still, no one is selling things.

OH, and when I encountered a problem in December, they KNEW I had participated in a share in September. I had used one card in Sept, and stupdily re-used it in Dec. Well of course you can't get that card ID number off of the share leader's account, right? So I had to email, explain that I had shared an account with a "friend" (and they could see we were NOT there during the same week) but had re-used it with my own account, and was there anything they could do. There was, they can add a card ID number to a second account, so they did that, and my card was put onto my account (which is how I ended up with my Sept pix on my Dec CD) and it was all good. They knew I had shared with someone not there at the same time, and they didn't even blink.

So while the anti crowd thinks they are against shares, in reality, they don't seem to care.

How many pics fit onto a CD? If you get more pics than what a CD will hold, do you need to purchase 2 CDs? ($120.00)
thanks!

Thanks bumbershoot! You are always so good at answering questions! Like I said, I am not against it, just curious.

You will receive as many CDs as needed to fit all of your pictures and edited pictures. Since each time you edit and save something, it saves it as a separate picture (the original is always kept and you can do multiple edits/saves on each picture), you can end up with a ton of pictures!!!

Thanks Molly!

I appreciate the time you take to answer questions. I am going with a big group of people in Dec. There are 3 different groups in my large group. My parents who are taking my neice, us (5) and our very bestest friends (2) who are not going with their children. We will probably get a bunch of pictures all together, some with separate family groups and maybe some with just grown-ups and some with just cousins/kids. You can see the morphing! ;)

Anyhoo, I was considering a share until I ran into some road blocks. So I will probably just share with my group and call it good.

I just realized I'm completely confused about all of this!! I went to the budget board and signed up for a ps in late December - I'm actually a group leader. Now that I'm reading the pricing you all are listing I think I accidentally signed up on a DisneyWORLD thread, not DisneyLAND - although in my defense I don't see where it specifically says *what* it is for, it's just a December Photo Share thread. I PM'd the person that started the thread, so hopefully she can help me out - but I'm :confused3 !!!!

I made an account on the disneyphotoshare.com site and I can't for the life of me find the pricing for the cd's. I can find a pricing list, but next to cd it says to go to products-> cd, and I go there but there is no price. Am I on the wrong site or what!?

Thanks for anyone that can straighten me out. I'm going nuts here! The last time we were at Disneyland was over 2 years ago and I don't think they had any of this stuff yet!

Alyson,
I was signed up on the budget boards, too. And the person who is listing all of the photopass shares and keeping track of everyone is a total WDW photopass person. The group leader for my share (13) asked the group lister :confused3 about my $59 questions versus the $99 pre-order and just wants to keep the $99 because that is what the other person said to do. I am not willing to pay for the pre-order when I can get the $59 price. Even if I end up just sharing with the 3 groups (in my big group).

So I opted-out of the budget board photopass and was getting some DLR photopass answers here.

This is what I have so far -

DO NOT pre-order, you will spend too much money.

Get a group together (disboard "friends") and split the cost with however many people you are comfortable with.

Get the money from your group so you are not carrying the financial burden.

Everyone goes to DLR for their vacays and takes lots and lots of photopass pics. When they come home they use the ONE username and password for the entire group and upload their pics. Then edit so they have whatever borders and special effects they want on their pics.

You (or the leader) orders the CD and pays the $59.95 plus shipping ($4.95?) from Disney after everyone is done editing (within a 30 day period) and wait anxiously for it to come.

You (or the leader) copies everyone's pics according to their upload days onto separate CD/DVD's and sends them out to all of the group. (Just as fast as you can because everyone else is waiting anxiously, too)

Then you breathe a big sigh of relief because you have successfully completed your first photopass share and now you are looking for ways to go back to DLR and are thinking of starting another share!!! :lmao:

So far this is what I have. Hopefully if I have missed a step or have some misinformation, someone will correct it. But, I think the person on the budget boards is wrong about DLR and right about WDW, so that is why there is confusion!

HTH.

Ok, I heard back from the person that started that share thread and here is my understanding.

The $59 DLR cd does NOT allow you to edit. You only get the raw .jpg images, which is fine if you don't want to add any of the Disney stuff to the files before you print. If you do want to be able to edit it is more like $80. If you go in on a $99 or $125 (depending on if you get the preorder) share with 6 people you are probably going to pay around $25.

I have been all OVER the disneyphotopass.com site and I can not find CD prices ANYWHERE! So all this is going off of what I have read here on DISboards. (Yesterday I did find the $99 preorder price, and I can't find it, or any other pricing for CDs now).

I did email her back to clarify that it is ok that I'm going to DLR and other people in my group are likely going to WDW. Does anyone know if that makes a difference? (Other than in the price of the CD. I mean can photopasses from 2 different parks be loaded to the same account. My guess is it shouldn't matter, but I don't want to waste $25 if it does!)

Alyson -

If you read bumbershoots answer HERE ^ who has done the DLR photopass and just double checked to see if the price is still the same, you will understand why I opted out of the budget board photopass thing. The person who started the thread is wrong about DLR photopass. You can still edit and add all of the fun stuff for DL, AND you still pay the $59.95. That's why the initial post by me - because I was confused and needed a DLR specific answer.

Even though on the budget board I was in a DLR only share, the leader still didn't understand about how it works at DL and was willing to pay the $99 which is totally unnecessary! I don't mind paying my share - just want to pay the best price!

OH - I get it, LOL! Sorry, it was late last night when I was reading and I was just getting myself more and more confused.

I think I'm going to stick with the $99 share so my cost will be lower. If it ends up that we only have DLR people in my group we can order the DLR cd and it will be cheaper still (I'm the leader). I take a million personal pictures on my own cameras, so I really only wanted to do the cd thing so I could play around with some of the editing features. If I love it then I'll do my own cds in the future (or just share with people I know - since I live only about 45 minutes from DLR I know lots of people with Annual Passes that might be interested in sharing with me).

Where are you finding the pricing on disneyphotopass.com? Did you find where it specifically says DLR is $59 and includes edits - or is it based on what bumbershoots said? I don't doubt you, it's just driving me nuts that I can't find an "official" price list for CDs on that website. Maybe you have to have pictures uploaded to see the prices :confused3

Thanks for your input!!

Alyson

I haven't found the $59.95 price on the DL website. They just talk about photopass for WDW - even though they don't say that. So, my info is based on this board and the people that have done it recently. I have been lurking the photopass threads for the last couple of months so I would understand how it works and know where the photopass photogs are. I really want to do it. I just didn't understand it!

I have never found a thread where the information about the $59 was contradicted and someone would have said something if it was!! :upsidedow

Good luck being the leader and I hope you have a fun time. I am certainly looking forward to my trip.

I may just post a thread about doing a share on this particular board and see how many people are interested!
