I heard how great Keens were and tried them on. Maybe it's just my foot or I am not used to this style of show but they fit weird. I take an 8 or 8.5 (I swear I'm probably 8 1/4) the 8 Whisper fit good but my heel felt like it was hanging off the back. The 8.5 fit better on the heel but there was SO much room in the toe box. I also tried the Rose sandals and had the same problem. I even tried the size 6 kids and those seemed to fit better but didn't feel like they had as much support and my small toe seemed to be hanging out a bit. Any other style Keen felt too heavy/clunky.

Any other options or is this how they are supposed to feel?

I tried Keens and did not like them. I switched to Danskos and they work sooo much better with my feet. I even wear them at home!

I'm sorry the Keens didn't work for you, I swear by them. I switch between my Keens and my Teva Mush flip flops. A lot of people love Chacos, but quite frankly I felt the same way about Chacos that you do about Keens. Maybe its a one or the other type of deal for people.

I love my Keen Whispers and yes the toe box is really roomy but it's not an issue, it's one of my favorite features!

Maybe I just need to acknowledge that they are not like regular shoes. Would you go with an 8 or 8.5 if you were me? Do they tend toe stretch/adjust? I feel like once I broke them in my foot might not hang off the back - they might slide forward more once they were fully adjusted to my foot. And when I say hang it wasn't much and it was still pretty comfortable. The 8.5 just seemed like there was a TON of room. Do they run big by nature? Thanks for the help. My daughter is dying for us to have matching shoes so I wanted these to work! :)

I love my Keen Whispers, and I also own a pair of the Keen Clearwater CNX and the Haven CNX shoes.

I wear either an 8.5 or a 9, and for Keens I always get an 8.5. So if you decide to get them, I'd recommend the 8. They do tend to stretch out a little as you wear them, although there is also an adjustment with the "laces" you can do to tighten them.

One thing I would note, although the footbed on Keens is anatomically designed to be comfortable, don't expect a lot of cushioning. I prefer a minimalist shoe, so they are perfect for me.

Having said all that, I have some Merrell shoes that I adore, and I hadn't seen those sandals you linked. I may just order those myself!

I usually wear either 8.5 wide or 9 depending on the shoe. My Keens are size 9. As I said before they are roomy but they're not twist an ankle roomy. I like the roominess but it's probably not for everyone. If you're not comfortable with the way they fit you, you may want to find a similar style from another maker. Sometimes the fit is just not there. For me, it's Sketchers and Nikes. I can't wear them, they just never fit me right no matter the style or size. I wasted a lot of money (and gave away a lot of barely worn shoes) before I figured that out.

Have you tried Keen Newport? I ordered both the Whisper and Newport to try and the Newport fit me much better.
