So I've been reading the threads about this and trying to figure out if it would be something to do or not do. Last time we went I didn't bother but I didn't know much on that trip as we were first timers, I didn't even know we had been upgrIaded from a standard view in POR to a garden view until I started making plans for this trip and started coming here!:rotfl2: Kind of a waste to give someone an upgrade and they don't even know it! Any how I've been debating about this mostly because I've requested connecting rooms and though I have a good feeling about this especially since we are going the last week of August and stay at CBR which is such a big resort; I still want to check in the way most likely to make this happen. Our reservation is under one number so I think that might help things. Since I've never done this before how exactly does it work? Do you know your room location once you do the check in? And if so if it wasn't connecting could I phone Disney to ask about it or just inquire when we get there. I would really really like conecting rooms but if it doesn't happen it's not the end of the world as DH and I would just split up, though the 3 girls would really like their own beds as they are at that age where they easily irritate each other but just being alive....I know anyone who has children who are teens or pre-teens knows what I'm talking about! Anyhow what are peoples thoughts and advice on this? Thanks

We were just at the POLY. Got there about 7:15 p.m....not a person in line but us. Did not do online btw. maybe it was the time of evening or the resort we were at. Took less than 5 min. They had everything ready for me. I signed a paper and off we went ! Must have been all the luck we were gonna get all week, after that all went down hill !

If you do online checkin you will NOT know your room assignment ahead of your arrival. All you are doing is giving them your credit card info so that all of your paperwork can be ready for you when you arrive.

If a particular location (or connecting rooms) is important to you, and if you have made requests ahead of time, then I would recommend NOT doing online check in. Having to ask for different rooms than the ones that were pre-assigned would mean a longer delay in getting your keys since they would have to redo all of the paperwork.

I did online check in for our stay at the WL in December. We were given a dirty room that had post it notes on the mirror from someone else's stay, crumbs, messy beds. There was even a tag on the door that said the room was being made up or something like that. So I had to schlep back to the desk and get a new room. It was annoying to say the least! But, they did upgrade us to a bunk bed room. Although I'm not sure that was an upgrade since my kids don't really like bunk beds :lmao:

I also thought the experience was pretty weird. I just stood in the lobby away from the desk and she gave me my info. I prefer to just do it all at the desk. I personally won't do online check in again.

Sounds like maybe I should just check in when we get there. We are coming over from Universal so will likely be there before noon so not coming from the airport or anything like that. I don't mind waiting in line especially if it means we have a better chance at getting connecting rooms. :thumbsup2

That's not how they always do it, and we've never gotten a room that wasn't ready. Well, we got one room that shouldn't have been rented to anyone (horrid mold or mildew problems all throughout the 2 bedroom villa), but I don't think that was online checkin's fault. :)

So just in case you think that those two things were because of the online checkin simply being that way, it's not always. They come out to you as a favor, and I would bet that you could say "I just want to go to the desk" if you wished to. There's nothing different that they are doing vs what they'll do at the desk, of course, but if it makes you more comfy, then just tell them if that happens again.

We've only ever had good experiences with online. Both times our room requests were granted down to the room number and we never waited in line more than 30 seconds.
