It just dawned on me having booked this show for Mothers day that my kids might not eat the food!! I know..Im crazy. I just noticed what was on the menu. Is there anything else I can order other than the chicken, beans, ribs etc for two picky kids?...all they really eat is fries, chicken nuggets and cheese pizza. I really dont want to cancel it as I know they will love the show but at the same time I dont want them to starve...any ideas? Thanks

My kids are picky eaters as well, but they loved the Hoop Dee Doo food. My oldest never had ribs before that night and now he's hooked. For my youngest, we just tore the chicken into pieces and he gobbled it up. But that may not work for you.

My suggestion is to call Fort Wilderness and let them know your situation. Trail's End Buffet is right next door, so maybe they can arrange to have a plate of chicken nuggets and fries for your kids. Otherwise, you may just have to feed them before the show and hope that's enough.

It's a set menu served family style as far as I know, least I have been there 3x and not seen anyone eating anything else. Be warned the dessert (strawberry shortcake) is served one for every 2 guests so you have to share, first time we took our boys that did not go over big :lmao:

Im wondering...do you think they might let me bring in food from the Trails end buffet in a "to go" bag? I could always ask..what do you think?

I would absolutely bring in something in a bag for them, why not I have brought a baggie of snacks for mine. Now I had asked on our first trip about different food for kids, waiter said no, now if you tell them when u call about allergies I believe they can arrange something because I have seen children with other options.
Also my son is very picky but he will eat the chicken, he love mashed potaotes but will not eat there's ( skin in them).
We go every year and I would love to see them offer kids options.( like the Luau)

Sounds like a good idea :thumbsup2

When we went last year, we were able to get a bowl of Mac & Cheese for the kids by asking. Looks like one of those "depends on your CM" situations. I'd suggest having "backup food" just in case, but asking your server for options.

Oh, I never knew that. What do they do for odd size parties. We have 5 in our family. Sharing wont go over well with our kids but does someone have to share with the stranger next to them :lmao:

Honestly I don't know about a party of 5 since I have gone all 3x with a party of 4. And no shareing with strangers , each party is at their own table. ;)

When we went in January, our server noticed my son was not eating his chicken. She didn't say anything, but the next thing you know she plunked a dish of mac and cheese down in front of him. It was really sweet of her to notice he wasn't enjoying his meal. (it was good mac and cheese too!):goodvibes

You can order something different. When you make your HDDR resevation tell the CM what you want to do and she will give you a phone number that you will call about 48 hours prior to your resevation date. You will be given several choice's for your kids. They get the food from next door. Susan

This is really good to know, we have been numerous times and never know this!

My MIL is a vegetarian and they brought her a special meal and she ate the cornbread with it, we all shared the salad and other items. We had a bowl of strawberry shortcake for 2 to share but you serve yourself from that onto a plate--no dipping into the same bowl to eat;).. it was very good too!
Just ask ahead of time--I'm sure they will accommodate.

Yes, I believe it's true. We were also at HDDR in January with all 4 kids, 3 grandkids, and a few others...and it was DS (34!!) who is the VERY picky eater. The waitress noticed and told him that next time we could call ahead and explain the situation and they'd provide whatever he needed. I was amazed! Also will keep this in mind when we bring my DD's vegetarian friend along again!;)

We are adults who do not eat beans and have always been able to get french fries or mac and cheese. Actually they may not have had fries the last time we were there, but pretty much anything from the trails end buffet can be brought to your table. Usually we just let our server know as soon as they come for drinks but we have also called the box office (or stopped by earlier in the trip) and they can note dietary requests (doesn't have to be allergy related).

Just went last month with three very picky eaters. Mac and cheese of PBJ was the option.
So got PBJ for the kids... was uncrustables... and came with something else? not sure why, but Im thinking a little bag of apple slices?

I don't recall getting fries, which would have been fantastic.
Kids had some salad, my son had one rib. otherwise, nope, didn't care for the food.... the show, yes, they really enjoyed.

We did deluxe dining... and had HDDR at 5:00 - and actually ate at LTT at 2:30 beforehand just to make sure the kids we well fed and that HDDR for them would then be a light snack to pick at since figured they wouldn't like it. Would have hated for them to have gone in there hungry, and nothing for them they wanted to eat.
Wish they'd offer chicken nuggets or hotdogs for the kids there, though.

I saw it as an opportunity for my son to try the food. I explained the menu to him before we went so there were no surprises. I also explained that he gets to choose most of his meals and this would be an exception so please just try it. I don't remember if he snacked before hand, because we just gave them snacks when they asked. He is a picky eater, but when at home I make 1 meal for everyone not 2. If he doesn't like it sorry this is what is for dinner. Now if it something I know he absolutely can't stand (he gags on anything Mexican,so I make something different for him, I'm not that evil:lmao: ) He took 1 bite of the cornbread, said he was full, he ate nothing! Zero! No interest. Did not complain. He loved the show. He had pizza when we got back to the room. No problem. My son was 7 almost 8 at the time so it would also depend on the age of the child. Not so sure I would do this with a 4 yr old.

I have the same issue with my 5 year old. There is no way he is going to eat the fare provided.

The guide book I have, from 2010, says of the Hoop-Dee-Doo "kids can request mac and cheese and hot dogs instead". But it doesn't say if you have to do that in advance of your dinner time. I think I am going to call and request it just in case.
