Hello to everyone,
We are going to NYC by bus this Saturday, the 19th. This is not our first trip to the City. But, we have never really had a plan. We always would just wing it. :rolleyes1 This time we have a plan. :cool1: But need your guidance.
I have been on every site possible trying to figure out the best way to approach our day. I know I should have come here first, but, thought how hard could it be.......It's hard.....and my head it begining to hurt. I'll fill you in on how we are planning our day. And if you can tweek our plans with the best and safest directions, we would truely appreciate it:worship::worship:
Our plan is to arrive in the City no later than 10am. We don't leave until 8pm. These are the things we are planning on doing.
Start with Canal St./China Town shopping. (being dropped off somewhere in that area by the bus). After here, we would like to head to the South St. Seaport to do more shopping and go on "The Beast". loved this ride!!!. Now we have tickets to see Wicked at 2pm. Will we have time to do all of this and still make our 2:00 show? After the show we are want to eat, but, where???
Do you recommend using the subway at any point? And if so when, and what line?

TIA for any help.

Personally, I don't think you'll have time to do both Chinatown shopping and The Beast before your 2pm show. I'd choose one or the other to avoid being stressed out about making the show on time. You'll want to arrive at the theater by 1:45 so you have time to use the bathroom/get seated, etc. So you should leave from downtown (either Chinatown or the Seaport) by 1-1:15.

You can easily take the subway from either area up to the show. You can take the C/E to 50th St & 8th Ave (this is closest to the theater), the 1 to 50th St, or the N/R to 49th St.

For eating after the show, head 1 block west to 9th Avenue - there are a ton of great restaurants along 9th Ave in the 50s & 40s. If you let me know what type of food your family likes, I can probably give you some specific recommendations.

^ It's a speedboat thing, I think the same company that does the Circle Line cruises runs it. I've been on it once, it was fun (but a little pricey IMO).

We're going this weekend as well for a one night stay at the Sheraton NY Hotel/Towers.

I don't think you'll need to go to Canal St. as there will be a huge street festival/fair a few blocks up from Times Square.

The weather is suppose to be great so why not take the double-decker bus or the Cirle Line Water Cruise. They have a few different types. You can look the website up. If you google Circle Line NY you'll see it.

Thanks everyone for your feedback. Things have now all changed. Someone else was in charge of theater tickets, didn't get them. Now it's sold out. :scared1::eek:  Honestly my DD was more interested in going back on the Beast then a show. So, now back to the drawing board with planning.

The street fair sounds interesting. But, will the girls get the same deals :rolleyes1 as they would on Canal St?

Now that our plans have drasticlly changed. This is our plan. Is it doable?
Again start out in China Town. (the girls realllllllly want to go here). From there 1/2 of us are going to"The Beast", and gotta see Hell's Kitchen. According to google map. These two places are some what close to each other. Is that right? And is there shopping near Pier 83?
Here are the high points that we want to hit. Please let me know how you would orginized your day if it were you.
China Town, The Beast, Hell's Kitchen, Trump Tower, FAO Swartz, Tiffany's,Ellen's Startdust Diner, Serendipity
We will also be doing all the usual Time Square things as well TRU, M&M ( a must ever trip for DD), general Rock area. Anything else we have left out, feel free to fill in.
Remember we will be getting to the city @10am and not leaving til 8pm.

Thanks for all your help!

This is how I would tackle the day:
Chinatown (be sure to try ice cream from the Chinatown Ice Cream Factory)
Chinatown and Little Italy are right next to each other, btw

The Beast

Midtown:
Times Square, Hells Kitchen, Ellen's

Walk past Rockefeller Ctr to 5th Ave

Trump Tower, Tiffany's, FAO Schwartz

Use www.hopstop.com for walking and subway directions.
