So, I'm brand new and already thinking about adding points in a few years. If we do that, tell me how it works. Can I choose how many to add? Is it good to keep the same use year or change it? And most importantly, if I add at a different resort (say Bay Lake Tower) would I then have 2 "home" resorts, or do I not get home resort perks there?

If you add-on direct from Disney, they will only sell you the same UY that you already have. You can add-on as few as 25 points if paying cash or credit card or 50 points if Disney finances. You can add-on any number of points above those minimums. Disney also pays the closing costs for you. If you add-on at a different resort, you would get the 11 month home resort booking advantage for only the points owned at that resort. At 7-months the points could be pooled to book at any resort.

As mentioned they will give you the same use year for your add-on. It's an addition to your main, master, contract that you already have, so it has the same UY.

It can be at a different resort if desired.

If you want a different use year, then the minimum purchase would be 160 points, and it would have it's own, separate, membership number, meaning it would be a new 'master' contract, not an add-on contract. It would be totally separate from your current 'master' contract.
