My friend's daughter has another math problem, which I thought I had figured out but I didnt'...
Here is the problem...
THE LEFTOVER PROBLEM:
After the Christmas party, there are exactly eight pints of eggnog left in a large punch bowl. The hosts, Abbie, and Sam, want to split this evenly between them. The punch bowl belongs to Sam, who also has an empty, UNMARKED container that holds exactly three pints. Abbie has an empty, UNMARKED container that holds exactly five pints.
Explain how these two friends can evenly split the eggnog between them. Remember, their containers are unmarked, so they can't directly measure volume, but they can obviously tell when a container is full. HINT: Neither person knows how much their container holds... (this is the part that I did not read into it.)
Also, if anyone worries about helping with these problems, she is allowed to ask for help as these are advanced problems for her math class... She does not get penalized for getting help... It is her teacher's way of involving parents and relatives in their children's schoolwork...
