Lovely night last night....laying in bed....outside in our outside living room, 2 days of cable tv left...so watching all the quirky tv I can....just love a specific cable LA news station.. woman weather reporter comes on and says that Disneyland was the hottest place in the nation Monday.... 20 mins later she comes back and says it tied for the hottest place in the nation...I knew she was wrong....because My patio Snow White grotto was really hot yeasterday here inYuma. 1:30 PST we are in the house now...will be 102 by 5 on our porch...but it is a dry heat

Woah! As much as I hate the snow, ice, and cold of winter, I cannot imagine living where the temps go over 100F much of the time!

I've been very "practical" about all this Covid-stuff, so I was really surprised at how relieved I was when I was finally, fully vaccinated. Weird. Anyhow, DH and I spent a week in Florida recently, to make up for the two times this winter that we tried to take this vacation and couldn't (first time it was postponed as things changed at work, 2nd time was because DD was diagnosed with Covid on the morning we were supposed to leave- but we were quarantined). We stayed at Saratoga Springs resort for the first 5 nights, then out in Cocoa Beach for the last 2 nights. We did a lot of things- went to the Leu Botanical Gardens, to Showcase of Citrus (campy but fun!), Blue Springs State Park, to a winery, rode the entire Skyliner, just drove around to see what the area is like. Checked in on a Sunday night, spent the week together, then DD flew down late Thursday night so we could go to Epcot together for the Food&Garden festival (or whatever they call it). We had a great time at Epcot, and I rode Mission:Space (green side) for the first time ever! Had to close my eyes at the end and was feeling a little weird when I got off, but sat for 5 minutes and it passed. In 30+ trips, I've never been on M:S! I drove out to Cocoa after closing Epcot and we stayed 2 nights. We have a dear friend (DH's best friend from undergrad in the early 80s) who is looking at his last few months of life (advanced emphysema, advanced kidney disease) and he had a party on Saturday during the Air Show. He lives right at the beach and is still mobile enough to get down to the beach (with his oxygen tank) and could watch the show from a bench in the shade. There were definitely two groups at the party when not out on the beach, and the anti-mask/anti-vax/it's a hoax group stayed in the yard while the rest of us used the house or yard (if we chose). It was lovely to see our friend (we'd been to his place earlier in the week, when it was just the 3 of us) and we got to meet his son (who found him 3 years ago courtesy of the DNA services) and daughter-in-law. I am so glad that DD was with us- she and he were thick as thieves, talking non-stop for about 2 hours while watching the air show. All in all it was a lovely vacation, and hard to come home. I am beginning to understand why people look forward to retirement!

Hope everyone is staying healthy and safe. Things here are still pretty "cautious" with everyone still masking, distancing in restaurants and such. I am OK with it, I figure even vaxxed, I'm better safe than sorry. I am more than ready for summer, for warmer, sunny days and some more vacation time!

Good stuff: DH, DS and I have all had both our shots as well (DS’s second was just this week). Spring is here, and I’m enjoying the sunshine and flowers. One of my nieces graduates in two weeks, and I attended a children’s birthday party today - small, and with masks, but definitely a step above last year’s “drive-by sign holding”.

Bad Stuff: We lost DH’s older brother a few weeks ago (not to covid, he had other health issues, but it was still too soon). I worry about his parents, but don’t really know what to do to help.

well...it is May 1st.....and the desert residential lots are indeed brigh with golden haze and they are speading many a May Day baskets. Larger than elephants the Sugaru cactus are blooming, bogovia are dispening out petals like a white carpet flower girl wedding and yellow belles are a dancing and cactus pear a ripeing

and as for the desert willows in thier blooms that look like orchids...take it away...

and they are all lovin this heat....climbin clear up the sky these desert plants do

My husband shares the cooking, but a baker he is not. So.. today while discussing just that, and what I may bake next he said: Oh.. you don't want ME making any muffins and I asked why's that his reply: Well.. then you'd be asking people; Have you seen the muffin man? the... Thanks! It was nice to see this thread pop back up.

Things are good here. We had kind of hoped to plan a cookout, but the weather didn't cooperate, so DH and I went out to a restaurant for brunch, and it was relatively "normal". I did a bunch of stuff around the house (since it's rainy out) and then made an easy and yummy shrimp dish for dinner.

I finished binge-watching the latest season of NCIS yesterday. Anyone have any recommendations for what I should watch next?

Pollyana Mom do you have Netflix? I just watched the Kominksy Method season 3 over the the weekend and it was terrific. It's Michael Douglas and this season includes Kathleen Turner. So funny, and poignant.

We watched this series this weekend, too! I really enjoyed it, and I loved that they wrapped it up. They'd decided to only do three seasons and they did, so we learned the end of everyone's stories. It was great!

In weather news, it finally is another lovely day in Calgary. Last weekend (our Victoria Day) we had snow flurries, which is typical and it was still regularly freezing at night during the early part of the month. We usually turn a corner right around now and I've finally gotten up the nerve to put my bedding plants in today. Fingers crossed they take alright before the rainy season starts. It usually rains every day in the last three weeks of June. I hope y'all have a pleasant long weekend where you are.

For me, the first two seasons were enjoyable because it just seemed different from everything else out there. The first episode of season 3 had me laughing out loud. I think you could probably skip ahead without much concern for spoilers. If you don't enjoy the first ep of season 3, the show probably isn't for you.

We've had frost at night here.. sigh. 9C a few days as the unseasonably high.. sigh too!
