Another lovely day in Oklahoma. . .

for all of you Christopher Cross fans....they had a segment on TV show Mom that featured his music to some length....it was fun....you know....being validated that you can still recognize the man who tied with all the grammies and that the album with the flamingos is still worth keeping in the box. ...makes for a lovely day.

My absolute favourite..

Update on our car bike rack.

Well the Niagara Falls area paths may have to wait, our carrier will come from B. C. to us in Ontario in as many as 56 - 60 days! :(

Funny this.. or not depending on one's take on it, it makes me laugh.

Here at the moment Toronto radio broadcasters in a joking way are blaming all negative anything on the cargo ship stuck in the Suez Canal!

That is kinda funny. "Why is this McDonald's drive-thru line taking so long?" Suez Canal!
" You're taking too long to get ready!" Suez Canal
" You're late for work" Suez Canal

Micca: Yup lol.. our bike carrier.. Suez..

Our car is a compact, and our bikes require a combined weight carry of 120ish pounds. So.. our understanding is they are on back order. At least because we got started early the favored biking weather may offer us a more patient wait. :moped:

Just dropping in to say hi. It's been a pretty decent weekend, even if we did have "thick rain" (not quite sleet, just plops on the windows looking thick around the edges) this afternoon. I went to visit my sister for a couple of days, which was nice. She lives about 3 hours away but in the southern part of the state, so I can be "away" without having to quarantine upon returning. We spent the warm days (not kidding, it was 73F in southern Maine on Friday) sitting on her deck or out driving around with the windows open. It was a nice change and made me believe that spring will really come (even if today was crappy...). In the good news department, DD heard that she's been accepted into the 2 year MSW program that she was hoping for. She'd been waitlisted and not happy about it, being as she graduated summa from this school, is already working in the profession and is conditionally licensed, but learned that they are required to take those with undergrad degrees in social work first, and she was #1 on the waiting list. SO...
They contacted her on Saturday to say that there was an opening for the 2 year program and it was hers if she wants it, so that's good news. The other good news is that she has finally found some relief for her headaches. FINALLY someone listened and realized that she is having long-term headaches from Covid. There is such a thing, and there IS a protocol that seems fairly effective, and she finally found a medical professional who'd listen to her. Poor kid- she'd been taking Tylenol with codeine (old prescription, I know... but she was in PAIN) and it wasn't helping, but her PCP said it's just stress, try to relax and take ibuprofen. ANYHOW... she finally found someone who listened, put her on the appropriate meds, and her continuous pain level had dropped from an "8" to a "4" AND she can sleep.

Best thing about today is I looked at the calendar and realized that DH and I will be in Florida in two weeks! We are staying 5 nights at Saratoga Springs Resort across from Disney Springs. We're going to Epcot one day for the Flower and Garden Show (I lie, it's for the food booths) and will go to Cocoa Beach to visit an old friend one day. He is already fully vaccinated, DH and I will be by then (we get shot #2 on Wednesday), and we're trying to decide what to do with the other 2 days. I'd happily sit by the pool, reading and enjoying the sunshine, but we might do some "day tripping" to see the Dali museum in Tampa, or go somewhere to see if we can spot some manatees... or not.

So that's all the news from here right now. Hope everyone is happy and healthy, and enjoying the coming of spring. Isn't it weird to think about life today, and how it was a year ago? Isn't it weird to think we've been living in a pandemic for a year? I am far more optimistic about this spring and summer than last, THAT's for sure!

Happy to hear your daughter has found someone who will listen to her and can help her. Congrats to her for being accepted into the MSW program!

Love hearing about your trip plans. The Dali museum is fantastic. I loved seeing his work in person. Definitely gave me a better appreciation for his talent.

^A delightful upbeat post. Congrats! to your DD. Just as a mention, here in Ontario it was recently reported that low dose aspirin seems to work with Covid headache. My Dh as I post is 'Trying' to book his inoculation appointment, and it is 'Trying' my patience with his frustration.

I only hope my booking is smoother.. sigh. :guilty:

Enjoy your trips south. We were in Cocoa Beach once while on a cruise, it was a bus excursion. :sunny:

That's great, Jane!

Our state opened vaccines up to all 16 and up, so DD received her first dose today. I came home afterwards and tried to sign up for her second, but it looks like our county is only releasing appointments a week at a time, so I can't secure a spot for her second dose yet. I hope I don't have trouble getting one for her within the recommended time frame.

It’s so weird that they leave it up to chance like that! I’m in between my two shots, but they scheduled my second at my first, and DH’s were scheduled as a set.

I agree. I wish they did it your way. Things have been pretty messed up with vaccines in our area. Our health department team ended up getting taken over by the city due to mishandling of thousands of doses. Then the city got taken over by the state. There is definitely room for improvement in the way this has been implemented, but the site itself was very well organized and efficient. Too bad they don't have the power to schedule second dose appointments there. : (

ETA: I really hope her hospital begins vaccinating the older teens with Pfizer within the next three weeks. If so, I will try to get her 2nd dose there.

There's one part of this I'd forgotten. I understand vaccinated people are to stay away from unvaccinated people; Does that mean my husband will need to quarantine away from me?

DH and I were vaccinated before our daughter. We asked about that and were told no. No part of any of the vaccines (in the US anyway) is a live virus, so you cannot pass along the virus just because you were vaccinated. It is possible you might (I think they are doing studies on this) still carry and transmit the virus like before you were vaccinated, but there is no need to take precautions that you were not previously taking within your own household. For example, either of us could have passed the virus to our daughter before the vaccine. The chances of that did not increase just because we received the vaccine and she did not. We still limit our time in public, wear our masks while in public, and use proper hand hygiene so we are still taking all the precautions we were previously which provides the same sort of protection to her as before we received the vaccine.
