Another lovely day in Oklahoma. . .

Currently 90F, feels-like is 99F. It's only 10:20am... in northern Maine!

@Micca Those with far more authority than I have been pounding the tables and stomping their feet. We've been told basically "it is what it is, there is nothing they can do." Fortunately there are only 3 more summer session labs (the 21st, 24th, and 26th) and I can pretty much WFH the rest of the summer. I am going to meet with the faculty person who is technically "in charge" of the labs (she sets the syllabus and posts final grades; in 7 years she has been in the lab ONCE but she is the decision-maker) about remote options for the beginning of the fall semester. Folks here are famous for "crossing that bridge when we come to it." Here's the issue- SHE makes the decision but I have to follow through and make it all happen. I don't want 2 weeks' notice that I have to pack 200 "lab at home" kits for the first 6 weeks of fall semester!

Happy July 1st Canada Day to Canadians here, and 'Almost' the 4th of July in USA. These 2 pictures taken this am in my town, commemorating the War of 1812.

So, we were in WDW for the past week.
Temps at similar times in the Orlando area and Austin area on Sunday below.
And, the third image is from shortly after we got back to our home in Texas at 3:30p today…we needed to go to WDW to cool off…!!!!! 😂😁🤣

I'm not going to complain about heat; it's only mid-80s here, although most homes do NOT have central air. We don't even have window units at my house (our windows open with a crank) so we make do by sitting under a fan... Besides, next week we are off to NOLA for 7 nights. If we can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen, right??

Happy belated Canada Day to all my Canadian friends, and Happy 4th of July for everyone in the USA!

I was just thinking about your AC sitch, are you still going without at work? Funny you'd mention the crank style window, we had those in a house I grew up in. We had central air, but somehow I still had a window unit in my little bedroom. I guess my dad just took one of the two windows out completely to accommodate the window unit. It was frosty cold in my room, I loved it.

We are still without A/C in most of the building at work. We "managed" the last few labs by moving into our second lab, where it was under 80F most of the time, but if it hit 80 I was told to cancel lab. Didn't have to cancel, but it was close a couple of times. In the fall, we'll need to use both labs every day. I am currently planning a hybrid syllabus, so we can hold lab NOT in the labs for the first month to 6 weeks of school. Once it's October, we're pretty much sure we won't have a heat wave and the temps in the labs will be manageable, so we'll move back into the labs then.

To put window units in here at home, we'd need to overextend the window opening or remove the window completely, neither of which we would consider. We can use a freestanding unit, but it'd mean opening the windows completely, removing the screens, and having a plexiglass insert built. This insert would fit into the screen frame and sit on top of the access/exhaust panel for the freestanding unit (the panel that is the width of the window into which the round hose from the unit would fit). We talk about it sometimes, but it's a lot of work and we only have a couple of heat waves each summer. So far, we've managed with our ceiling and floor fans.

I've got to take calm wherever I may find it. Yesterday, Nature and Domestic lives. Our Grandpup met resident chipmunk.. Stay safe.

Hi Jane! Nice setup for the chickens! How does your dog react to them?

Funny that! As we NFLDERS are wont to say. The dogs were with them from really young chicks, and are protective. :)

Hi everyone! I wish I could find fresh eggs here. It seems like about 10 years ago, everyone was getting chickens and had more eggs than they knew what to do with; friends and co-workers were giving them away. Now, most folks have given up their coops and it's hard to find fresh eggs. Sad... because you really can taste the difference.

Hope you are all having a good fall. It's flown by here. DD bought a house in August so we've been spending our weekends doing house repair. They aren't in yet, but we are hoping by mid-November that everything will be done and they'll be settled- at least somewhat. I am planning a solo Disney trip starting Nov. 9th; that's 2 weeks from tomorrow! Hard to believe, but I guess it's time to start gathering my Disney vacation stuff (poncho, neck fan, stuff like that). Wow- two weeks to go!
