Is the quart-sized bag rule for "each" carryon? If each member of the family has a carryon, can we "each" have a baggie full of 3oz. (or 3.4oz) containers?

Yep - you get one quart-sized bag per person. Note that a 3.4 oz items it liable to get confiscated. The TSA takes that 3oz rule seriously!

Thanks everybody! I thought I read on another post the TSA upped the size to 3.4oz? Am I mistaken?

Yeah, that was my post, with a link to the newspaper article (which I recommend printing and taking to the airport).

Supposedly, because three ounce containers aren't produced/sold in Europe - where they use the metric system - 3.4 ounces = 100 milliliters, a standard size there.

Metric here in Canada

Just checked the largrest carry on container I have is 60ml. So I an safe.

Just FTR, it is one per TICKETED passenger. Lap babies don't get their own baggie.

And I am not sure a newspaper article will be much help. If possible I would stick to 3 oz or be prepared to lose your items.

Do these restictions apply only to carry-on bags? What about checked in luggage, can we take any size liquids in checked bags?? Also, we are flying on Delta so I checked their site and it says that up to 3.4 oz is allowed.

Yes, you can put larger-sized liquids in checked baggage, but be sure to seal them well with an absorbent packing material INSIDE the water-tight package.

There are some restrictions on amounts for certain TYPES of liquids placed in checked baggage, if the liquids are flammable. Lysol spray, for instance, is actually banned in any size, and always has been, and inspectors will throw it out if they notice it. The full hazardous materials list (which is decided by the FAA, not the TSA) is here: http://www.faa.gov/about/office_org.../passenger_info/media/Is It Safe brochure.pdf
("Personal care items" are generally defined as those that are applied directly to one's person. Spray deodorant or hairsprays fall under this exception, but housecleaning products do not.)
