Is it wrong that I am excited I got a notice in the mail today?

I think this is my first time getting called by the county, only once before having been called for Federal jury duty that never happened since it was the week of the 4th of July and the Federal courts were closed the entire week.

Fingers crossed I actually get on a jury!

I did three months of grand jury in Saratoga County, NY back 15 years ago. I rather enjoyed it.

I have been called four times (2 different counties) but have never actually served on a jury, or even been interviewed.

First time, I had to go sit in the jury pool room every day for a week. They had us fill out a questionnaire the first day, then as they seated juries, they'd come in and call out which people needed to go be interviewed. Once they sat all the juries they needed that day, the rest of us were excused till the next day. One of the questions on the questionnaire was whether you or any of your family members worked in law enforcement. My dad is a retired police officer, so I think that might have gotten me knocked out of the running right away, but not enough for them to tell me I didn't have to come back.

Another time, I got the summons right before we left to adopt our daughter. I was going to be gone for a while (including the start date of my jury duty). I sent in the request to be excused but it clearly said that. you are NOT excused until they tell you you're excused. I didn't hear anything -- I ended up calling the court the day before we left and he granted my excuse over the phone.

The other two times, the instructions said that you were supposed to call a number after 5pm the night before you were supposed to appear. They would tell you whether you needed to report the next day or not. I called the number and every night it said that potential jurors did NOT need to appear, so I never even set foot in the courthouse.

I have never felt put out by Jury Duty. Even after spending 6 1/2 weeks on a Civil Trial. My wife and I are retired now, and she just got a summons and she is looking forward to it.......IF she gets called. We have standby Jury Duty here, and you often don't get called in. Plus you get paid, and is a windfall when you are retired!

I've only been given notice once, but I was still a permanent resident back then so I was exempt from going. I haven't been given notice since.

I'd like to serve. I think my company pays for jury duty leave, and on top of that, I think you get a little something something from the gov't too, am I correct?

It varies by location, but, at least in my area, it is a VERY LITTLE something. I seem to recall it not even covering parking and a vending machine lunch. I would still like to serve. I was dismissed.

I wanted to serve when I got a letter in the mail. I didn’t get picked and I was glad because it was a high profile murder case. He ended up being found not guilty and it made people very angry.

Depends on the jurisdiction. I've been on jury duty before in the 90s. It was $5/day jury pay plus mileage. I think these days there's no mileage unless it's more than 25 miles one-way. When my company still paid me, I declined the jury pay (company policy), but accepted the mileage. I still had to present my jury pay/mileage sheet at the end and sign off that I wasn't accepting the jury pay.

I do remember hearing during jury duty that federal juries paid way more.

I have been called a number of times, served on two juries (one criminal matter and one civil), but grand jury has eluded me. I was called for it once, but had vacation plans so they pushed my service back. Unfortunately when the new notice came it was for petit jury service. I was looking forward to grand jury service.

$15 a day here plus mileage OR a free public transit pass to and from your house. If you drive, they have a free parking lot here for jurors

Parking was free for me and the compensation didn't even cover that.

I would be happy to do it, but I have never gone in. I have been "in the pool" before, but every time I called the designated # at the time it said, my group was not to come in.

Back when I did mine (early 2000's) NY paid $40 a day although my company kept paying my salary so I did not get that. My wife just completed 3 days in Polk County, Florida and she only got $15 a day. I looked up Federal pay and it was $50 day, plus reimbursement for parking.

I have been called at least 6 times, at least once in all three counties I've lived in as an adult plus federal. I was selected as a juror 3 times, served twice because the one time he changed his plea and they didn't need us. Of the 2 I sat on, one was an assault case and one was indecent exposure, that one was  .

I was also called for jury duty in our local county starting next week. I need to call the night before to see if I need to attend. I have a conflict one day next week, so I'm really hoping I don't need to be there that day. Crossing my fingers!

This is only my second time being called for jury duty. The first was Federal court in December, 2019 and after about a week of calling in, I was told my service was done and I didn't need to call in again.

Where I live, being called for jury duty is a pain. Technically, I live in Fulton County which is part of Atlanta. But, where I live it's considered northern Fulton County. When called for jury duty, it's in Atlanta and a real pain. When I last did it, had to get up 5 a.m. to catch the train. Have to leave early due to traffic and finding a place to park. Courthouse said to be there by 7 a.m. and I arrive in front of building at 6:45 a.m.
