Another Insurance Question

We're cruising in February - it's been planned for over a year but honestly, I was so unsure it would even happen that I haven't given the trip much thought or attention. Time to get serious though and I'm looking for a source of insurance (non-medical) that would cover the cost of an extended stay in Florida if we happen to test positive (heaven forbid) and be unable to fly home on schedule. I've tried some of the links mentioned in other threads (Manulife and tugo) but I don't see anything that covers these costs, only the potential medical expenses and reimbursement for the actual cruise if we can't go. All ideas would be very much appreciated. :wave2:

The sites are terrible but I was able to find the following from Manulife.
https://www.coverme.com/content/dam...erme-covid-19-pandemic-travel-plan-policy.pdf
The Covid-19 Pandemic Travel Plan covers $500 for airfare to return home beyond the scheduled date and $200 per day to a maximum of $2800 for hotel and food. It does say that it will only be covered if “you are directed by a medical professional to isolate or quarantine.”

I expected the premium to be a lot higher - $34 - and hope I purchased the right policy!

Thank you. I'll take a careful look at it. My travel medical is already through Manulife (my work benefits). I wonder if they would consider not being allowed to board a plane "medical direction"?

TuGo insurance is another option. I personally phoned them to ask if I was covered for Covid medical and for quarantining and they said yes. I bought my policy 13 days before we are set to leave.

Travel advisory is recommending against non-essential travel (level 3) or cruising due to Omicron. I believe the link you sent for Manulife indicates it does not provide coverage under those circumstances. My understanding is that it won’t cover quarantine expenses?

Did you look at Blue Cross. I’m away now (not cruising), but they are quite specific in what they cover, and it’s well explained.

So you had to call them? I found that site very confusing. When I put Alberta in as the province of residency, a whole bunch of insurance providers popped up and I had to pick one to look at their product. The one I randomly chose (ATB Insurance) didn't seem to have quarantine insurance.

I did call them to confirm because after I bought my policy I got confused with the wording in the policy that said they don't cover under advisories so I called them to cancel and they said it didn't apply to Covid. They won't cover if advisories are issued for other reasons but they do cover Covid.

I went to the website and started to enter information under the quote field:

Then you enter the travellers and then it takes you a screen whereby you can then select single trip or multi-trip, the types of coverage you want, etc. I selected multi-trip and bought for medical and for trip interruption. It cost a few $$ but I do plan to travel at least 2 more times before it expires in April of 2023. I don't recall it asking me (under these steps indicated) for a certain insurance provider in Alberta. Hope this helps you. Let me know if I can clear anything else up. We are leaving this Friday and I am trying to stay calm in this whole mess. Need a vacation so badly.

Thank you so much; I'm going to call them. I don't really need medical insurance, or even trip cancellation; my only concern is being unable to board our return flight. This particular cruise was given to us as a gift so we wouldn't personally be out dollars if it doesn't happen.

But I'm with you - it's been so long since we've had a decent vacation (we travelled in Canada the past two years - nice but not the same). We're done agonizing over what to do - as long as it's legally permissible, we're going. We have no greater risk of contracting Omicron out in the world than we do right here at home. We've both got three shots on board and we will continue to observe all requirements, as we have since the beginning of this horrible ordeal. :flower3: I hope you have a lovely trip.
