Say it isn't so! My DSis just called to tell me that they are expecting another hurricane (Frances?) to hit central Florida!?

When? Is it true? I leave on Saturday  .

Alas, it is true...... We are suppose to leave Sat also but the worst part is we live in South Florida so we are pretty much up the crek without a paddle either way.

Hope it moves up & misses Fl!!!!!!!!!!

It is still to far out in the Atlantic for them to determine a course and of course as we were shown with Charley hitting Punta Gorda and not Tampa as expected, even the course can vary. As of right now they are expecting it to be near the Bahamas by Friday/Saturday. Your best bet is to just keep make sure you are aware of what it is doing, but don't worry too much about it just yet. Here is a link to one of the local news stations http://www.wesh.com/index.html they have the projected path up and you can also do an interactive map tracking it's progress.

I've been tracking it too because I have friends heading there on Thursday evening. Looks like it most likely will hit the coast later this week into Saturday. No matter where it hits, it will impact air travel later this week and weekend. You can check the track of the storm by visiting www.NOAA.gov (they have some great pictures and tracking hurricanes is their job.)

Just read this:

Max Mayfield, director of the National Hurricane Center in West Miami-Dade County.

As Frances makes up its mind, it is moving slowly, which gives anyone in its way time to prepare. At its current speed, it is not expected to threaten Florida or anywhere else on the East Coast until Friday.
But that slow, forward progress also gives the hurricane time to intensify, and the warm Atlantic gives it the fuel.
The conditions are similar to those that drove Hurricane Andrew into south Miami-Dade almost exactly 12 years ago.
''We don't want to overdo that'' comparison, Mayfield said, ``but to some extent, that is true. Frances is going to turn back to the west. That doesn't guarantee a South Florida hit, but it doesn't hurt to get ready.''

So not happy!

I'm really bummed also. :(

I am suppose to go on Sat. but if the projection is right, air flights will probally be suspended. Am I right in thinking that?

Is Disney usually good about rescheduling?

Also, very concerned about all who live in Fl. Praying for everyone down there.

Regarding flights--it is individual airlines who make cancellation decisions--the airports stay open until it is no longer safe to allow a plane to land or take off. With Charley outgoing flights stayed functioning the longest---while incoming flights and trains began cancelling that morning.

If you can afford to come in day earlier either money-wise or work-wise, that might be a good idea b/c if it doesn't hit, travel will still be messed up.

Disney tends to be sympathetic as is most of the travel industry, in times like this, but they are not obligated to be this way. If you haven't purchased trip insurance, now would be a good time to get some and then your trip is fully refundable.

Disney resort is a safe place to be for a hurricane--but if we do have a hurricane warning--given landfall to be during daylight hours on Saturday, the theme parks will be closed--and within a couple of hours of immiment landfall and Orlando area impact, services such as food courts and such will close until the storm passes.

Best to call CRO for your particular situation to see what would happen if you cannot make it for some reason on your scheduled day. Again, they can still uphold cancellation policies--but the odds are that you will have no penalties, if the hurricane is imminent if you change your plans. Better to be pro-active about it than to wait until your travel day or after the fact.

Good luck--my hurricane preparedness starts today as we are at present the predicted landfall area for Francess (I live on a barrier island in the Melbourne area).

Lisa Loves Pooh,

Thanks for you detailed reply. I will be praying for you and your family as hurricane frances comes nearer to land.
