another hijacked thread!

Interesting.

OP, don't you realize that when you change the title of a thread more people are going to look to see what all the fuss is about? :confused3

As far as the "another words" comment, maybe the person correcting the poster could have done it more politely in a PM instead of on the thread for everyone else to see, thus causing the poster more embarrassment? Just a thought.

Isn't it possible that the lady who got upset didn't believe that she was cutting in line? Lines often take weird turns that confuse people. I know that I've found myself waiting patiently in line when I discovered that others had taken the line in an unexpected direction. Sometimes, this resulted in those other people being out of step with the line (and behind me). Sometimes, that resulted in my being in the wrong place.

Either way, the daughter was kind of rude, in my opinion and the correct response to her should have been that people get tired and lines can be confusing.

original thread gone...the thread is all now yours people:confused3

And for as long as I get mine, before you do, that is all that matters. Another words, my wants, needs, rights are more important than yours.

I find this quote ironic. You are saying that one reason that society is in decline is because people are out for themselves, and put their needs and wants before others. Yet that is exactly what you are doing by continuing to use the phrase "another words" because you "prefer" it to the correct term "in other words."

You are putting your needs and preferences before society's need to have standard usage in a language. You seem to be on purpose using the term "another words" to make others angry, which is a good example of "me, me, me..."

I prefer another words actually. But thank you all the same for believing that you need to correct my spelling and or grammar. I don't feel the need to correct yours. I don't appreciate people either being unnecessarily rude.

But, it's incorrect. :confused::confused3

What I find interesting is that NO ONE New Ruled the OP. :confused3 Does anyone know what the OP was originally about? It is kind of rude that her post got ignored.

That's kind of rude, too, if not done tactfully. Giselle already seems quite defensive in keeping "another words" even though it is incorrect.

Wouldn't it be better to just say she had heard it wrong all this time? I wasn't sure if a term was "bad rep" or "bad rap" until I had to write out the words. I don't have a problem admitting it.

My DD 7 and I were shopping at Disney Store tonight for DD5 upcoming b-day and it was very busy there. A discount cpn weekend and many people crowded into small store. As we were waiting in line to pay (line was long and slow), a woman behind me was talking to her daughter about the purchases they were making. Then a second woman comes in behind me to form another line. I didn't realize this at the time, or I would have told her the line was in another direction. My DD was talking to me at the time.

All of a sudden I hear "I am next after her...not you!" I looked and the woman behind me (who also had a young daughter with her) was telling original woman to the side of me. The original says "No, I was here first". Anyway argument starts to ensue, original gives up and says "nevermind I am not going to argue".

I turned around and told original woman, "Please go in front of us" The woman politely declined but thanked me. My DD looked at me and said quite loudly "mommy why was that other woman so mean and rude?"

It is funny, sometimes you just don't know how to answer them. I don't know why people have little to no patience anymore. I work in retail too and see it everyday...people want service and they want it now, no matter what. I mean OMG we were in the DISNEY store. Calm down. Not to mention what an example the woman was setting for her own daughter. Just found it sad.

:rolleyes1

I guess, I don't understand why the OP didn't speak up, since she knew who was there first and which way the line went? "Another words," ;) why stand there and watch the argument when she could have politely helped end it by clarifying it? :confused3

Can I just point out that I've yet to hear EXACTLY what "The Rule" is? I've seen it mentioned in posts, but no description.

I'm ASSUMING it's quoting what you are talking about. Which the thread actually did, it just got hijacked really quick.

The rule is that you should quote the op if you are first to reply so that it is recorded just in case it is altered later.

I wish more people did. :confused3

Why? Why does it really matter on a message board? It mattered in school, it would matter on a resume, or if you are writing a letter, but why does it matter on a message board? I'm typing on my iPod touch, it wouldn't take much error to misspell words. So I have to worry I'm going to be made fun of if I respond?
