Another hefty price increase

I'm renting a car so we can get lunch or dinner at an outside restaurant if we so choose. Not every time probably 50% of the time. And while I'm at it I might swing by Target and buy some bottle water and snacks for the resort.

The price of these items- sodas, milk and water- are NOT going up in the supermarkets to any major degree. The price of sugar and plastic bottles are also pretty steady so there is no other way to look at this than PRICE GOUGING.
The fact that some airports and stadiums may charge as much or more does not excuse it. Airport and stadium vendors have to pay large chunks of their revenue back to the city and state as part of their contracts.
It is called the going rate combined with inflation and a higher cost of operation.
Every theme park out there is just about on par in terms of price.
At least Disney let's you bring your own in.
It is not price gouging.
If you want to say that the cost of admission is price gouging, you might be on to something.

I hope that rumor about no outside food/water does not start being enforced now that they hiked prices. Yikes! We get a case of water delivered to the hotel and bring our own in. I just CAN"T drink FL tap water.
The operative word is rumor. Rumor and gossip are the devils tools.

We have season passes to a Cedar Fair park here called Kings Island. Opening day was this past weekend. Prices are again higher than they were last year for food and drinks. They do offer refil cups and a dining plan.. Which I don't do. Mainly bc I don't want to carry around the cups lol..

Regardless, theme park pricing is always ridic for these things.
Is the Beast still there????

I really used to feel like Disney was of course more expensive than cooking at home, only a little more expensive than eating out at home, and noticeably less than most "captive audience" venues. These increases really put them right up there with the highest price theme parks and sports venues. It continues to squeeze out my options for maximizing value out of my trip, making it more appealing to stay offsite for the savings that I'll need to cover an identical amount of food from my last trip. . . Now I'll have a car. . . Maybe I'll eat offsite more often than not now. . .maybe I'll notice there's a whole lot more in central FL that I never looked at before. . . Hey maybe I'll buy tickets to some of THOSE places!

Am I the only family family like this where the sudden and dramatic increases on tickets, food, drinks, up sells (not just $.70 for one milk!) might cause us to look at totally different options compared to when we automatically gave 100% of our time and money to WDW on a trip? If it really shakes up people's decision making, you've got to sell a lot of $3 waters to make up for a couple thousand we may now spend somewhere else. . .

Yes!!! My son is 47.5 inches.. HALF an inch too short to ride.. This is our 3rd year getting passes.. I can't wait til he can experience the Beast at night!!!!
Hopefully by the end of the season!
I was there opening week when the beast first went live! Kings Island was so much fun as a kid back in the 70's and 80's!
btw is that pizza place still there near the log flume? I used to crave it so much!

I wonder who is going to get the biggest Bonus this year at Disney for successfully implemented all the changes.. I can just imagine the meeting that took place. Here is the scenario.

A meeting is called at Disney for every Department Head. You will be asked to work with what you have and find ways to increase revenue. If you need to hire or fire anyone, so be it. If it increases cash in our pockets, do what you have to do. If our guests are getting something for free, find ways to start charging, so they still feel they will be getting something in return. At the end of the year, we will review to see how these changes have implemented our bottom line. If it is a failure, we will discontinue the changes and do away with it. Good luck and may the force be with you. Remember, we just paid George Lucas billions of dollars. The winner will get to re-name Disney Studios-and remember, the name has to have a mention of Star Wars-can't disappoint George Lucas anymore than he already is.

That log flume is gone.. Now there is only the smaller one in the kid's area, which is now called Planet Snoopy, not Hannah Barbara as it was in the past. But yes, Larosa's pizza is still there! $14 for a slice and 2 breadsticks, no drink lol.

There are a lot of great new roller coasters i.e Diamondback and the Banshee.. But I don't think anything compares to being on the beast at night while the fireworks are above you.

HAHA, reminds me of story. DD did DCP for a year. Right after arrival she was desperate for a soda after work and drove through McD. Ordered and they told her some crazy price around $3. She told them "NO, I want the $1 any size drink" to which they replied they didn't know what she is talking about. Even off property she wasn't far enough out of the Disney bubble to get real world prices.

Yes, once I stopped at the Crossroads McD's next to Disney Springs to get one of those $1 drinks and learned it was going to be substantially more than $1. I kept moving. :D

..lucky for me my son has inherited my love of roller coasters.. We got awhile before he will be tall enough for the ones I mentioned above.. But half inch to go until the racers, the beast, drop tower, and a few others.

Oops

Bottom line when I compare WDW drink/food prices to Kings Island they aren't that bad..actually a lot less. But of course my overall cost of visiting WDW is much higher.

Then don't go. If you are ok with spending the what most rational people consider hefty price just to get into the park, but not for a 3 dollar bottle of water, then your priorities need to be examined.

Really. My priorities need to be examined. You really have nerve saying that to someone on a WDW message board about the price of a drink. You think you can insult people just because you feel like it?

Other than a beer or one or two snacks, all of our meals will be off site. Renting a car will end up saving us hundreds of dollars.

Wow. Reread what I said. It is a direct comparison to the cost of admission into the parks for a single day versus the cost of quick service items. What I was trying to say is that if you are ok with paying the going rate to get into the park for the day but not for the cost of a bottle of water or a soda or a milk, then your reasoning system is out

How did I insult you? I made a simple statement that if you (basically anybody) is ok with the cost to get into any of the parks for the day at the current cost of admission but they are not with the cost of a bottle of water, that their priorities are indeed out of order.
Wasn't meant to be mean to you or insult you, just an observation. I do apologize if I came across as mean. was not my intention.

My priorities need to be examined because I think drink prices are too high? o_O

sigh....it was a comparison about how people are ok with paying the pretty steep price for admission to the parks but they get bent out of shape for the cost of a drink while in the park.
