Another Golf Cart Accident

Disney DOES ENFORCE RULES in some situations. During the last visit 2 weeks ago while tossing the trash in a trash can, a WDW pickup stopped in front of our site and a guy hopped out. He said "I need you to do me a big favor, you need to park your vehicle in the middle of the pavement and not on the grass." "We just planted it a few weeks ago." I said "Sure no problem consider it done." He jumped back in the truck and drove off. I'm thinking on the grass, I'm not on the grass. When I walked around to the side of my RAV4, yep, I was on the grass by 2 inches!!!!!!! I'm not kidding., 2 freaking inches. How the heck did he even see that.
As if on cue, a kid went flying by in a golf cart that looked about 10 with 3 other kids none over 10. I watched as they caught up to the pickup truck and tailgated the guy.

:confused3 I guess the grass is more important than humans.:confused3

Oh and by the way, I moved that bad old vehicle of my over 2 and half inches.
Go figure.
Without being there, and without trying to sound like I am defending Disney or the Fort, could it have been a horticulture truck that asked you to move? If so it would explain the grass issue, and why they ignored the golf cart. They prob would not know about the rules regarding age limits on driving.
(common sense not with standing)

We have had that happen twice (I know, learn the first time!). The first time we didn't realize we were on the grass and immediately moved the car when asked. The second time we had a spot that was too small for our needs and were asked to move. We tried to show them that we could not move but they were very rude about it and told us we could go to the overflow lot. Not going to happen when they didn't meet our needs by giving us a spot big enough for the information we provided. The kicker was that we asked them why we were being hassled about being on the grass when there were about 6 or 8 sites in our loop that had more than 1 car at their site and they said that wasn't their concern.
As for the CMs being able to enforce the rules. It seems like it depends if they want to be bothered. A few trips ago our neighbors left their little dog chained up outside all night, every night to bark. I finally had enough and called them because it was bothering us and against the rules. They never came to talk with them or take care of the problem. But, out of 40+ trips, I guess that 3 bad experiences are a blessing. Now lets solve this golf cart problem.

Ive heard a few people have the same issues with a unit being too big for a site, even though the Fort had the info long before hand. I cant explain it. I used to drive busses for Disney, and drove the Fort once in a while. We had a standing order, that if we saw someone on a golf cart that was acting irresponsible, or seemed to be underage, that we were to report it to our dispatcher with a cart number, and they were supposed to hand it over to security at that time.
Heres the problem,
Usually management will not back you in a situation like that. The guest will complain, and get there butt kissed, youll get a verbal and life goes on.I had an incident once out at the All Stars, where another bus had parked where he wasnt supposed to,opened his back doors, and was discharging his guests in the street. When I came in, I stopped looked and there was no one coming off the bus so I went in to my spot slowly. Next thing I know, a guest is at my front door, blocking my guests from getting off my bus screaming that I tried to run him and his daughter over. I had a few guests behind me asking if he was for real since he was no where to be seen when we came in.He yelled screamed hopped up and down on 1 foot etc.So I called security. They did a stellar job of standing there with a blank look on there face. A bus manager showed up, and took a few statements. He told me later they were going to suspend me, even though the video from the resort showed me coming in,stopping, proceeding slowly past the back of the other bus, and the guy no where to be seen. If the guests on my bus hadnt stepped up,( I still thank them)and said something, I would have been suspended that night on the spot, until they finished an "investigation". Even though I was told I was in the right, and the guy was still on the other bus at the top of the steps,no where near the front of my bus, and another driver had initiated the problem,I got a safety verbal, and the other driver got nothing.Go figure. Disney Logic.

since the campgrounds stay booked up solid many times, disney should be able to afford to offend guests who don't follow the rules. My family has 3 generations of FW campers, I started going when I probably was two, it is our vacation home so to speak.
RE: the golf carts. In this case if the kids were underage the parents are at fault at least for putting them in this situation. Disney REALLY needs to crack down on the use of all golf carts. One thing that needs to be enforced is weight/person limits. Not trying to offend anyone but these golf carts were not meant to carry 3000+lbs and I am sure we all have seen golf carts carrying several extremely obese people or people sitting on top of people. That is against the rules! Weight/people limits. Plus, it puts wear and tear on the carts which mean they run poorly for the next guest or wear out before they should. The past 3 times at disney I have had to return golf carts because of their poor performance then the replacement carts usually aren't much better.

I'm pretty sure disney turn the petting farm into a non existant petting farm due to the fear of lawsuits. They really need to get some regular patrols in the campground that can move quickly (not trucks) to get tots out of the roadways playing (roads are for cars not kids lying in them when playgrounds are literally minutes away) They use to have rules about what could be on the roads... what happened?

Do I think Disney enforces the rules as well as they should? No. But think about it for a minute - there have been very few posts where someone has said there was a CM actually watching a blatant disregard for the rules (bikes or carts) and done nothing.

1) This might have been wrong.
2) But, let's look at some facts.
3) The new mantra is "Everyone deserves their best WDW vacation EVER!".
4) CM's who enforce rules sometimes get complaints.
5) In fact, I saw a CM get fired for enforcing the rules !!!!!!!
6) It took the union four months to get him rehired !!
7) The family had a tough road during the unpaid "investigation".
8) When your job could be in jeopardy, you get VERY tentative.

NOTE: I got called on the carpet once for stopping a skateboarder in the Reception Outpost (tiny) lobby. How many skateboarders or heelie skaters do you think I have stopped since. Any guesses from anybody? Anybody?

Its the "my little Timmy would never do that" syndrome. Too many parents today make excuses and defend their children when they are clearly in the wrong. They will make a huge scene until the matter is dropped and never deal with the fact that their child is guilty. I have no idea why they do this because I frankly cant wrap my head around it. What it ends up producing is an adult who takes no responsibility for their actions and does not respect any authority. Unfortunately I see it all the time at work.

bring back the draft.

Since we have so many Mexicans here, why not steal a page from them. In Mexico, every male is REQUIRED to serve in their military for 1 year (it might be 2) after they turn 18. That would shape up some younguns for sure.

I am so sick of parents defending their kids' bad behaviors, or their own for that matter. Rules are there for a reason, to keep us safe, not to be a killjoy. When did people stop taking responsibility for their own actions.

Every time I drop my dd13 off somewhere I remind her that I won't be bailing her out if she gets in trouble. So, if she does something to get arrested, I hope she can find the bunks comfy.

I think that maybe, when a child gets in trouble, the parent's pride is attacked. If my kid gets in trouble that makes me a bad parent so I have to prove he wasn't wrong so I can be right. Sometime kids do stupid stuff. Bad parents bail them out, good parents make them face the consequences. Geez, get the ego out of the way please.

And the sense of entitlement people have... I can do what I want because I paid for my disney trip. Umm, well, I did too and I have a right to not have to worry about my kids getting killed by a golf cart.

OK, I am seriously getting on a soap box now, I am gonna shut up!!!

Just being in the millitary won't do it. I used to do contracting work for the VA on repo homes and if you could see how some of our veterans lived you would understand. They would destroy the houses and leave them full of junk and trash because they still didn't have any morals.
You are right that people need to teach children right and wrong. Unfortunately I don't believe the parents know it themselves.:confused3

As far as my kids going out and doing something stupid they better hope the cops keep them.:scared1:

I knew that anything the cops did to me would pale in comparison to what my Dad would do.

I won't say my kids are perfect or that I have never allowed them to do things that were against the rules but I don't just blow it off. I make sure they know that what they are doing is wrong and explain why i'm allowing it.
