Another ebay/paypal question

Thanks to the ebay thread, I finally listed a few things. My first auction just ended, and I got a message from Paypal saying I have to approve or deny a credit card payment. I don't think I want to sign up to accept credit cards at this point ~ I'm only dabbling in little things to get started. If I deny this payment, what happens? How do I go about handling this? Any help would be so appreciated!!!!

Did you specify in your auction that you would or would not accept credit cards?
If you accept credit cards through pay pal, you will have to pay the fees. I think the fee is almost 3%. then you will be always charged the fee. You can not go back to NOT taking credit cards.

I wish I would have stuck with not taking credit cards......

Congrats on your first auciton! Here's to many more!

If you used the PayPal logo on the aution setup page they automatically add in the CC logos..indicating that you will accept CC payments via PayPal, I did this once ..I switched my Paypal account to the upgraded version to accept that one payment and then I downgraded back to the personal account. Paypal only allows you to downgrade once so be sure any auctions that you are running have been modified to show that CC transactions are not welcome. I usually explain in the description and instruction for payment sections since I can't figure out how to add the non-CC paypal button yet..I'm still really green myself. I do spend alot of time in the community eBay boards on Seller's Central..lots of good info and advice to be found there.

If you are planning on doing this hot and heavy, I would open 2 paypal accounts and then provide both email addresses when you send your auction win notifications. You will need a separate deposit account and a separate debit card on each account.

Thanks for the help. The woman that won my auction has been wonderful, and is sending a money order. So this has definately been a learning experience. Jaklackus ~Thank you, I will check out the eBay boards to learn about the correct way to do things, I guess.

Now, I have 2 more auctions that will close tomorrow. Is it possible at this late in the game to modify them to state "no credit card payments" ~ if so, is that fair to the people that already have bids on them?

jgates, Thank you ~ if I set up another Paypal account, does it also go in my name, or does it have to be in my husband's name. I guess this has me really confused ~ is there anywhere to get more info on how to open 2 Paypal accounts? I do have an *** account ~ can I link another Paypal account to that?

Thank you all for the help! I really appreciate it!

Technically anyone with an email address can use paypal (to send and receive money). I have two email addresses on paypal. One accepts credit cards and the other one doesn't (this one is also my ebay email address). I have both paypal accounts linked to a different bank account. So once people pay via paypal, the money is deposited rather quickly soonafter.

I accept CC payments thru PayPal only and it has made a tremendous difference in my sales. Remember that a lot of sales are impluse buys. If people have to do too many steps(writing a check, putting it in an envelope, etc) you WILL lose the sale.

This may be a silly question, I'm getting ready to sign up as a new seller myself. Why would someone not want to accept credit cards? Are there fees involved that make some people not want to accept them, or are there other reasons?

Thanks everyone, I am truly learning a lot.
