Ok I'm trying to understand this, but it just doesn't make sense to me. If you book day by day why do you call based on the day you check out? Lets say I want to book my home resort for Dec. 1-5, I would call Feb. 5 to book Dec. 1st? Why wouldn't I call Feb. 1 to book Dec. 1 & then call each day after? If I called Feb. 5 why can't I book Dec. 1-5 if those dates are already 11 mos. out? I think I'm missing something here. I know I should be getting this, but it just doesn't make sense. :confused3

Because the rules for DVC reservations are based on the check-out day. You can reserve your home resort 11 months from the check-out day. For a stay December 1 to 5, you can call on January 5 and book all the nights. The only problem you can run into is if other people book some of your nights before you. Say several members are staying November 30 to December 3. They can book all their nights on January 3. So you come along on January 5 and some of your nights are already soldout (December 1, 2, 3). To avoid this during popular times, you can book 1 night at a time. On January 2, you can call for December 1 because a December 1 stay would checkout on December 2. Then the next day call and extend your checkout to December 3, then the next day to December 4. This way there is less chance of your nights already being booked by other members.

If you are calling at the 11-month point, it's 11 months from the day of checkout, so if you are calling for the night of December 1, you would call on January 2 because that is 11 months from the December 2 checkout day.

If you wanted to book December 1 - 5, you could call on January 5 to get all of your dates, subject to availability, given that December 5 is your day of checkout.

Thanks for the explanation. As a new member, it helps for someone to explain this for me as well.

Wow - I didn't understand this either! We're closing on BCV resale next week, and I am callling in July for a June 14-20 stay for a group of 11. Thanks OP, for asking the question, and thanks for the great explanations!:goodvibes

Phew! Glad I'm not the only one that didn't get it! Sometimes it's the simple things in life that are the most confusing. Thanks to Debbie & Wilderness Dad for the great explanations & I'm glad my brain cramp was a help to others! ::yes::

One other thing to keep in mind ... the confusion that can happen when booking 11 months out during a month that has 31 days for a month that does not ... I had this happen to me last week.

For example, May has 31 days and I was calling for my 11 month window for a trip April 28 09 through May 6 2009 using the day-by-day system. I was NOT able to book anything on May 31st because there is not an April 31st ... does that make sense? Here's what happened:

May 29 - called for the night of April 28
May 30 - called for the night of April 29
May 31 - tried calling for night of April 30 but was told since there was no April 31 to check out on I would need to call the next day!
June 1 - called for night of April 30
June 2 - called for night of May 1
and so on ...

This only happens a few times a year and if you call on one of these days and get a CM that isn't familiar with it then it can be a bit confusing.

I now COMPLETELY understand this situation, :lmao: so if you have questions please feel free to ask!

Have a magical day! Jennie
