Another dining plan question

How do you pay for meals on the dining plan exactly? Do we receive vouchers upon check-in or do we just use our room key to pay? Also, do both dh and I have to order our meals separately at a counter-service place?

Also, we are checking in on a Monday. On that Monday, we are going to a character breakfast. Is that meal eligible for the dining plan (since technically you're not supposed to check in until 3pm)?

Everything is on your room key. With a package they will have a key with your name on it and what type of tickets/meals you are on, ours said Adult 5 day dining or something like that. You just give the server your room key like you would a credit card and you just sign the receipt they bring back. It will tell you at the bottom how many of that type of meal credits you have left, say if you at at TS it would say you have 13 TS credits left (for your whole party). You can use your keys and your meals as soon as you check in and get them activated. We checked in at AKL at 8 am and got our keys but not our room. We went to AK after that and had lunch around 12 or so and were able to use our meal plan. Just check in before you go to the meal or you won't be able to use the meal credits.
