First of all..this is the first time I am posting on this board, so forgive me if I am asking something that I shouldn't...but I really want an informed answer.

I friend of mine is a CM consultant, I am currently doing a book party for her, because I have a huge personal order. My order alone is about 350, and other friends(who are also her current customers) will total about 50. My question is, would it pay for me to become a consultant(and deactivate if I can't get any follow up business). I have most of the basics, that I see pictured with the consultant package, but was hoping those items could go into my stock and I could sell them. I have been scrapping for 4+ years, and do know several people(new to scrapping) very well that might host a class for me. I have a tiny house and I would not be able to host any workshops or classes here, but I know my friend goes to a monthy crop in the local area put on with other consultants.

So I think I am basically asking if you think I can get about $455(+the cost of consultanship) in merchandise for less than the $400 I am going to be paying for my order.

My book party is so small because I literally have only 2 days before she wants to get an order in, so I need a quick response. TIA

Alot will depend on if your wanting to put in the time inorder to make the business sucessful. Yes...you can become a CMC and not work it...but you'll end up buying alot of product for your self. Which then it depends on how much you scrap and how much product you'll go through. Is there ANYTHING in the CMC pack that you'd get that you have on your list of what you want to order right now? If so...start by taking that amount off your order list...do that then see exactly how much additional product your looking at getting. Also....how offten do you place $350-400 orders with you CMC? When you are a CMC you have to place $500 in orders (retail cost) every 3 months to remain active....

To be a sucessful CMC you have to dedicate time and really work it....making calls, booking and holding parties/classes. Alot of CMC don't hold classes at their home...but like going to the host's home. If your thinking of joining the other CMC at thier crops...you may want to contact them first and see if they'd be willing to let you join in and start bringing in your custiomers to the crops also

Another thought is...if you have good friends now that use CM products (from your CM friend now...she'd be your upline)...you may want to talk to her about what happens to your friends. Will she be okay letting them go as her customers inorder to become your customers? Or does she what your friends to stay with her....while you go find your own customers? Also find out how much she (as your up-line) will help you build your busness.

I don't recall what the cost of becoming a CMC is off hand...but you'd pay that sign up fee first...get your kit. THEN place your first order (which has to be $500 retail cost or greater). When your a CMC you just take 30% off the retail product to find your cost. BUT then you have to add tax to the retail cost and shipping cost also.

The new policy for new CMC's is that you can make your $500 to activate rolling, meaning you don't have to have 500 in one shot. That was intimidating, and my best friend might be a CMC today if that was the case when she signed.

I think the kit is around 150, but it doesn't have as much stuff as it used to. The biggest draw, for me, would be the % discount on the Storybooks.

Well I could have easilly ordered 700 today...but went with a 250 order(310 total), and a note to my friend...so we'll see if she thinks I should be a consultant.

Thank you both for your help. :cheer2:

I signed up because I wanted so much stuff, and over here you only need one order to activate (and my CMC kindly let me use the party I'd held as my first order, so that was OK). I just buy stuff for me, and once a fortnight I hold a very small workshop in my dining room (me and up to 3 others) and order anything they want. Yes, I've ended up buying a lot for me, but there are not many scrap shops in the UK, and those there are tend to be expensive (no Walmart bargains for us  ) so the 30% discount makes it worthwhile, and if my friends are ordering anyway that covers my postage and sometimes even my order. And being a CMC means you sometimes get special offers and freebies, which keeps costs down.

I will do a party if someone wants one, but I'm quite happy with my little circle as I have a "day job" and so don't have the time to seek out business. My upline gets the benefit of me as an active consultant, and there are only 4 of us in North Kent anyway - she is 65 miles away, the other two are 10-15 miles away, so the business could be there if I looked.

Canwegosoon,

Seems like there is a need for a strong new for a CMC in your area. You can go online to CM's website and find another consultant to sign under.

If you have questions, feel free to pm me.
