Another Computer Query

Since there have been a handful of tech/computer queries
I thought I'd add one, if anyone can help me.
Google/DuckDuckGo were not my friends in this case.

I use Chrome as my browser w/DDGo as my search engine.
I back up my bookmarks occasionally and suddenly, out of nowhere,
when I export from Chrome they are saved on my external as Edge links.

I don't understand it, and I don't like it.
Something must have changed in recent months, I'm thinking from Microsoft,
whereas before the saved bookmarks were/are Chrome links,
but now they are only exported/saved as Edge.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Perhaps Microsoft has set Edge as the default format? When you do the backup, does it give you the option to save in original format, or to save as Chrome format? It may be that since you didn’t have to tell it to save as Chrome before that you accidentally bypassed the option to save in the format you prefer. I would give it another try.

Also, could you save them in another way? Sometimes I use my email as a quick backup option by either a copy and paste or attaching a file. Perhaps if you did that while in Chrome, it would not convert the links.

I hope you find a way to make it work!

Why backup bookmarks? I use Chrome and its bookmarks bar. I sign into Chrome and the bookmarks follow me on devices (as long as I log on to Chrome on those devices). This has worked for me for years (a decade?) Have yet to lose a single bookmark.

ETA: I'm genuinely curious, there's no snark in the post.

No worries. As my DS would say, "reasons."
Hard to explain but I'm a news junkie & I read a lot
of news from around the world.
I enjoy reading about other nations, politics, cultures, "big" news items, etc.
Also, there have been many "big" items here that came as no surprise to me,
as other nations had been aware of the scuttlebutt & had been reporting
on things long before any common news source here had even mentioned it.
I've also found it's one of the best ways to find out what's happening here in the USA.

In any case, I export/back up my bookmarks on occasion, then delete what I don't need
to see but what I want to keep as archives.

Monkeysoft likes to trick you into changing your default browser and importing your other browser links. I see this happen at work, but as I use a Mac and I don't touch Chrome or an variation of it I can't help much. But here is how to change it in Windows 11 & 10.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!
I cannot thank you enough :love2::thanks:
(if you can't tell, it worked!).

I want to switch to Edge & plan to, but still using Chrome until then
as it's the only one I've used in recent years.
