2% here.:thumbsup2

Now my dd does not drink milk. She got used to a Soy Milk called Vitamite which is not longer sold here so she keeps trying different stuff once in a while. Still has not found her replacement.

Might have to give the ones listed here a go.

We drink about 5-6 gallons of milk a week in the house and I only buy fat-free (aka skim). Once in a blue moon the store is sold out of fat-free, so I have to buy 1 or even 2% if the 1% is sold out. When that happens, the entire gallon is gone in approximately 4 hours because it's a real treat for the kids to not have fat-free milk! To them it's like drinking a milkshake! :lmao:

If I bought 1% or 2% all the time, we'd be adding a lot of fat to our diets that is not necessary. Yes, the fat-free milk is thinner, but you get used to it.

When I went to college in London, our milk was delivered in bottles each morning to our dorm building. When I'd peel off the top paper of the bottle opening, the first layer of milk was always this very thick cream that I'd scoop out with a spoon. Then when I'd make a bowl of cereal, I'd add water to the bowl because the milk was so thick! It was more like drinking half-n-half! I've been drinking fat-free milk since I can remember.

Whole milk. All the way. The other stuff looks and tastes watery/nasty to me. Blech. That being said milk in our house is pretty much only used for cereal in the morning and cooking. Not really big drinkers.

On a side note - I had a friend growing up who (along with the rest of her family) put 1/2 and 1/2 in breakfast cereal...

I drink skim only because I am trying to slim down.:rolleyes1 Otherwise I love whole milk. We also drink Almond Milk. That stuff is delicious!:cloud9:

Whole milk is really not "bad" for you....Most Drs and dieticians tell you to keep your fat in food to below 10-12%. Whole milk has between 3.6-4.3%. Really VERY low on the fat scale in foods.:thumbsup2

You honestly aren't cutting your fat intake by very much just by switching to 2% or skim....unless you're drinking gallons upon gallons daily.

The other thing to consider is that whole milk, or homogenized (Cdn term) is the only milk that does not have preservatives added during the fat-reducing process. Most people just don't know that. If you're on the Feingold diet for medical issues, you find that out.:confused3 Not sure about organic...haven't researched that.

All that being said, we drink whole milk. I grew up on a dairy farm, and we drank unpasteurized whole milk by the gallon. It's still a huge treat for me when I'm at my sister's farm....skim or 1% to me is disgusting...if I want to drink white water, I'll add some food colouring to tap water.:rolleyes1

We're another organic skim family here. Although we do rotate between that, Soy, and Almond milk, just so we get a variety of tastes.

My sinful indulgence is buying a pint of whole milk.

Our kids pediatrician said whole milk until age 1, 2 % until age 2, fat free from age 2 on. So we haven't had anything but fat free milk in our house for 18+ years.
My doctor is a little more liberal, he says 2% until age 5, but that nobody over age 5 should drink anything but fat free.

We drink "Super-Skim" which a local dairy makes that tastes like 2% but is skim milk.

I grew up drinking 2% but love this stuff so while it's more expensive, it's worth it.

DS1 drinks whole milk, though.

If our fridge is particularly full (Christmas) I buy 2% and we share with DS1.

I'm lactose intolerant so DF and I both drink almond milk. Soo delicious :thumbsup2

Non-fat/Skim for cow's milk.

Silk Vanilla Light Soy Milk for non-dairy milk.

I also like almond milk too.

Usually skim or 1%...occasionally we'll do 2% but not often. We buy skim or 1% chocolate milk as well and even that I usually dilute with white milk because it is usually way to thick for my liking.

2%- it's what the pediatrician recommended for my kids when they were toddlers, so it's what we've gotten used to. DH and I only take it in our coffee, or to cook with. The kids will use milk in cereal, but never drink it straight.

half and half.

No I don't drink it, but I use it in coffee. I might use it in cereal if I need something.

I did start drinking skin milk in college as the regular milk in the state I moved to had regular milk that tasted like cream because it had so much fat in it. Back then there was only whole and skim milk.

I grew up on 2%, but tried skim at a friend's house in high school. I couldn't taste the difference, so I figured I'd switch, to avoid the fat and calories, and get the additional calcium and protein in skim milk.

It's funny, because even though I couldn't tell the difference then, I sure can tell the difference now. I can tolerate 1%, but 2% tastes like drinking cream to me! :crazy2: ~shudder~

Only organic, too. It probably wouldn't matter much for me, since I don't drink a lot of milk, but my dd drinks a ton, and I don't want to put all those antibiotics and hormones in her!

This is not correct and a big misconception by whole milk drinkers. 49% of the calories in each cup of whole milk is all fat! :scared1:

One cup of whole milk is 146 calories with 8 grams of fat. Each gram of fat contains 9 calories of fat. So 8X9= 72 calories of each cup of milk is fat(49 percent)! That is not good. Drinking one cup of milk (vitamins aside) is like eating 1/2 of a Snicker's candy bar when you look at calories and fat. That really adds up over time, or can make a difference in losing weight by just switching to skim milk which has 80 calories per cup and no fat.

My sinful indulgence is buying a pint of whole milk.

My doctor is a little more liberal, he says 2% until age 5, but that nobody over age 5 should drink anything but fat free.

Infants are not supposed to drink any milk until they are one year of age. They should be drinking only breast milk or formula their first year. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends now (guidelines changed in 2008) that children who are no longer breastfeeding between the ages of 1 and 2 should drink 2% milk, not whole milk. It used to be thought that toddlers needed the fat content in whole milk for proper brain development, but long-term studies showed this was not true. Due to climbing obesity rates, 1 year-olds should now be given 2% milk until age 2. At age 2 they should be switched to 1%.

I drink 2%, but I really like whole milk, but have a tolerance issue with whole.

I may have to try the horizon organic that you all posted about....I love milk and would gladly pay extra for some really good stuff.

Full fat for cereal and half n half for coffee
I really do not drink milk.
