I've looked on safety seat websites and read the guide that came with our seats but have yet to find the answer to this. We used the tethers when my DDs used the 5-pt harnesses.

Do we continue to use the tether when they use their seats as boosters? I must admit that we are inconsistent, we sometimes tether and sometimes don't and it's because we really don't know which is correct.

Thanks!
Peggy

IMHO, if the hook for the tether is available, then I would use it. It holds the seat in place much better than anything else and that is the whole point, keeping children from becoming projectiles. We just switched DD into a seat that goes from the 5-point harness to a booster and it is tethered to the seat in the van and I intend to keep it that way. One thing I was distressed to discover is that this type of seat seems to loosen much quicker than her old, heavier car seat. I guess I will need to be vigilant about checking the straps every week just to be sure.

When I was buying a booster, I didn't see any with teathers. I think because the boosters I was looking at had a removable top portion. The teather might allow it to unsafely deattach during an accident. I don't know, it's just what I suspect.

If you can find a booster w/ a teather and it has a good safety rating/ranking, then I'd sure use it.
