Well Matthew will be 6 months old this coming Friday! I can't believe how time flies!! If you remember he has/had milk/soy intolerence so he is on Alimentum formula and has been doing great. My ped. told me that I could try him on "regular" formula a few months ago but after our emergency room ordeal when we tried it when he was 6 weeks I'm scared to death to do so(he couldn't stop vomiting when we last tried it so ER was where we ended up!) He also was having a hard time with the "ready to feed" version so he is on the powder form. Well now that he is 6 months and on solid foods 3 times a day plus his bottles:rolleyes: would you give the ready to feed version a try again? Maybe it's not too heavy for his belly anymore? The reason why I am asking this is because my friend's sister works for a ped. office and has been a life saver getting us "samples" of this formula(I haven't bought a can in about 2 months. They cost almost 25 a can and I go through 2 a week!) She told me the other day that the powder form is much harder to come by but she could get a ton of the ready to feed. Is it worth giving it a try? I just don't want his belly to be upset:( but he has had no problems with any of the solids so far. Also, when should I brave it and give the "regular" version a try? Or should I?
O.K. Mommies give me all your advice!!
Kim
As you can tell by the picture in my signature he's developing quite well so far! LOL I have a chunky monkey!!

I've never used formula, but everything I've read indicates that most babies do outgrow their need for special formulas. I would think that trying a ready-to-feed special formula would be the most gradual transition you could start with. I'd probably start by mixing just a bit in with his powdered formula, no more than a tablespoon or so at one feeding to start with, and then work your way up gradually to less powdered and more often.

Good luck! Having a young baby is a lot of work even if there aren't any special considerations.

I switched my daughter from Alimentum to Good Start at about the same age and she had no problems with it. Good luck.

I remember my neice's daughter was on this. She tried to get her to take regular formula at 6 months but it was a no go. She also had reflux so maybe that had something to do with it. I would also suggest adding it, bit at a time, to see how he reacts to it. I would never suggest just giving him a bottle of regular formula right out. I don't know how the special formula tastes, but I remember it didn't smell too great!! Since his taste buds play a bit role in what he eats now, it might be a good time to introduce the normal formula.

Sorry I dont have any advice for you, but I wanted to say, great picture! Its so nice to "see" you. :D

One of my sons was on Alimentum. He started on it about 3 months old, he had difficulty tolerating the other formula (neosure), his reaction wasnt as severe as Matthew's. I used both powder and RTF, he would do fine with either. At about 10 -11 months old I did switch his formula to Good start. He tolerated this, and also made the transition to milk. Good luck. I know how $ it is , and it smelled horribly. BTW He's adorable

So if I were to change to the regular formula I should do it gradually but what if I wanted to just try the ready to feed version of Alimentum? Do you think his belly could handle it now that he is keeping solids down? I think it was just to heavy for his belly before.

Camcolt, thanks for the compliment! I was telling Dan that I wasn't suppose to have MY picture taken that day but the photographer wanted one! I didn't have makeup on or have my hair "done" the way I would have wanted!! LOL A.J. wanted me to add that picture the other day so I did with the intention of changing it soon but imagestation won't let me post pictures directly anymore! I love the picture just not of me! LOL:rolleyes:

I would give very small amounts at first in the parking lot of the hospital! I still hate to give DD 6 peanut butter as she had a horrible time with that as a baby!

LOL! Good advice! Now, you watch out for that peanut butter!

I'd make the switch gradually. Maybe mix the powdered and combine it with the ready to feed for a while, gradually increasing the concentration of ready to feed. He can probably tolerate it now. If he can't, you can always switch back.
