Another August question

Not to hijack PinkMagnolia's post but I was going to ask about the end of August too. I'm looking at a week earlier - August 21-27. Our other option is the week of June 19. We also plan to stay at Cabana Bay without Express Passes (but we will get Park to Park tickets). We are coming from NJ and I would prefer to go in June (right when school lets out) but I forgot to allow for snow days. The week I would go in August is cheaper, from what I hear it's a little less crowded because school is back in session, and it happens to be the week of our daughter's birthday. My 2 concerns are the heat and the crowds. Is it any better during this week in August? Thanks.

It looks like August 1st is on a Monday this next year - helping get SC students back to school the earliest possible date, on the 15th. (SC is the 3rd Monday in Augusta at the earliest - which most schools do). GA students will be back in school by then as well. However, Orange County in FL went back on August 24th this past year - the 4th Monday. IF they stick to that pattern, then you'll still be safe with the earlier start of the month, since that will have them back August 22nd. I'm not sure if FL has any laws about how early students can start school or not though. You could look up the surrounding counties to see when they started this year as well, to see if there is a pattern with the FL schools. The Northeast doesn't go back that early usually though - but that would still keep crowds at moderate instead of high if all the southeast kids are back in school. The end of June would be worse crowd-wise. (In theory - better weather-wise. I'm not in FL, but on the SC/GA border and our June was actually worse than our August this year - but that was an exception). By even mid-June, pretty much all the southeast schools are out. GA gets out in May and SC gets out the first week in June usually. Orange county gets out June 8th this year.

I can comment on the heat - We have been to WDW that last week of August for the last 3 years ('13, '14, 15) and I can't sugar coat it: it's crazy hot and humid. It rains pretty well every day (in the afternoon or early evening). This year was especially wet with a couple of Tropical Storms in the area as well. That said, the prices are amazing, the crowds are lower than they are all summer; and as we are limited with when we can get away to go, it's the best we can do. Every day we plan on RDing the parks, coming back to the resort in the afternoon during the worst of the heat, then heading back for dinner. I love it.

Personally, twinklestar, if I could choose between June or the end of August, I'd pick August. If you check the crowd calendars, end of Aug will always be far less busy than June. And as a couple of posters have pointed out, lots of Southern schools are back in session. I believe the week you are thinking of going in June, all those same schools will be out for their summer breaks.

We've decided to do CB that week for sure. Probably Aug 25-Sept 1. Maybe I'll see you around the pool?

We have gone end of Aug. for several years (driving from NJ). We imagine the crowds are worse in June/July. It really is not that bad, if you are prepared and have a good outlook. So we are, like you, choosing to stay CB next Aug, too! See you there.
