Another AP Question

We just got back from WDW. We bought annual passes early 2018 and used them the first time in September 2018. I could have sworn we had the DVC discount on Gold Annual passes. I knew there were black out dates and everything. I was expecting to renew at that rate, but I just went on MDE and our passes are showing up as Platinum Plus.

So here's my question/confusion. Did DVC/WDW do something? Did they upgrade my passes, and then will I only be able to renew at the upgraded renewal price? I know we never would have intentionally bought the plus pass.

And, I was expecting if we were going to renew, to renew at the Gold renewal rate (though significantly higher than I was thinking a couple weeks ago)?

Anyone else have this issue?

Did you happen to purchase the AP special (Platinum Plus for the price of a Gold AP)? It was offered in July 2017 with a purchase deadline of Jan. 2018 and the vouchers had to be redeemed by Dec. 31, 2018.

I don't recall doing that, but I just got off the phone with WDW and that was their thinking. She did indicate that I can renew at the lower Gold renewal price. I'm really debating whether or not to move forward with the renewal given the increase in price.

It’s truly a simple arithmetic problem.
Work it through and that will yield your answer.

Yes. Our issue is we're out of points, so it's more whether or not we want to make another two or three trips to WDW by renting points or staying in a hotel with cash. We have no trips planned. We have borrowed three quarters of our 2020 points, and living in central PA, there is logistics of the trip.

If we commit to renewing, we'll make sure to get our value out of it.

We're empty nesters, so there is some flexibility, but DW is still working (though gets 7 weeks vacation a year). I'm retired.

So many decisions, but blessed to be able to have these problems.

If you have no trips planned, just wait and get a new AP at the start of your next trip. You can buy it more than 60 days in advance so you can get FastPasses. Then activate it at the park. No sense paying for a renewal if you will not use it.

I would only renew if you know that you will be going on trips that make renewing better than waiting. The only time I renew is if I need to in order to make trips work. Typically, I have had 2 months between the end of one trip to the next and just buy a new one as then I get the full 12 months. Now that I am officially retired...woohoo!...I will be going much more often and most likely do renewals from now on.

If you can think out to the future and what you might have planned it may swing things one way or the other.
My AP expires the end of April. I am usually down there right before. I do not go again until Sept. I dont wait, I still renew even though I will not be using it for 4 months. My reasoning is I go similar times every year. So, if I wait til sept and buy a new one, I will still have to renew next year and the year after and the year after. Its more money out of pocket this year, even though I "waste" the first 4 months of the pass.
But, If I weren't renewing every year, I would probably wait.

Also, I had a Platinum Pass from the last super special, so my 2018-2019 pass was platinum. I renewed as a gold this year, no issue at all.
