I have been an AP holder for several years along with my Grand Son. Today I purchased an AP for my Grand Daughter, she just turned 3. I know about entering, receiving a temporary ticket, going to the ticket booths at sometime throughout the day for the permanent pass. And the picture taking part.
While I was navigating the web site I thought I saw something that said you could get your permanent pass " At the Pass holder office inside DL". If so, where is it? And if so is it a shorter line than the ticket booths?

I don't think there is a passholder office inside the parks anymore. That was done away with several years ago. Now the ticket booths process your pass.

I'm planning to buy an AP - should I buy before the trip or just buy there? I was going to buy there so I could use giftcards, but is it faster to buy ahead of time? I know you have to have a picture taken there.

You are still going to have to got to the ticket booths at sometime. You can enter with an ETicket, but to complete the process you have to go to the ticket booths. I don't think its any quicker buying ahead. They still have a few things to review and then print out your permanent ticket.
I not sure if you can pay with gift cards online.
The picture is easy, just find a photographer in the park. Takes a couple minutes.

They have recently changed this. You no longer have to go to any Photopass Photographer to get your photo taken. Instead, they now take your photo at the entrance turnstiles.

A Castmember will scan your AP voucher or NEW AP card with an iPod scanner. If you do not have a photo associated with your AP, the iPod will prompt the CM to take a Photo. Your photo is attached to your AP file instantly. If you have a photo associated with your AP, it will show up on the iPod and turnstile computer monitors when scanned.
