Are the standard view rooms on the second floor, facing the front of the resort? I thought I read that there are first floor rooms, also....how can there be first floor rooms that contain a balcony? Does anyone know if the standard view rooms are all located on one floor and are they convenient to the lobby or food court? Thanks for any replies.

There are some first floor rooms facing the parking lot. They looked about 3 feet up so they do have balconies. The only one I really looked at was as we were walking to the bus. There was a man reading his newspaper and we were all looking at him as we walked by. We were only a couple feet from him. I really would not have wanted that room. It had to be so noisy from people traffic.

If I remember right the lobby is technically on the third floor of the resort (sort of like having a walkout basement in the back. and there were rooms on that level that faced the parking lot and would have pretty easy acess to everything, BUT I also remember walking in front of these rooms to get to the bus stops. The sidewalk butted up against their patios which had a stone half wall but I could have reached over and touched something and the drapes were always closed (because you definately would want them that way 24 hours a day. Definately the worst rooms! Maybe the rooms on the other side of the lobby wouldn't have any foot traffic in front of them if ground level is that important to you.

I'm pretty sure most of the standard view rooms face the front or parking areas. There are a couple on the side where you walk to the bus stops. These rooms would not appeal to me at all but the standard view rooms we had were not so bad. In the front of the lodge the lowest rooms are actually on the third floor or lobby level. That's where we were. On the left side in Ostrich Trail. We couldn't really see cars because of the trees and bushes and it was very quiet in that area. We'd stay there again. At first we were put on the fifth floor in the rooms that don't have much in the way of a balcony (more like a closet with a port hole window) We asked to be moved and they were very nice about it. We loved AKL and are planning to stay there again next year. HTH.

We had a standard view room on the 5th floor this past December. We overlooked the roof of the covered walkway/stream and also the pool. The location was great. It was very convenient to the pool, restaurants, lobby & gift shop.

5kwallace, are you positive that this wasn't an upgrade to pool view? Some friends of ours paid for pool view and their room view sounded very similar to the view you describe. We want pool view next year and I'm not sure I'd be very pleased seeing the roof top and not the entire pool area.

We have stayed a couple times and had a standard view last time only b/c we need wheelchair access and it was all they had left... The centeral location was great...10 feet off to the right from the main entrance... The room was HUGE! Way bigger than our savannah view last time on the 4th floor... I would rather look at buses and stay comfy w/ the kids then crammed into the other room

Do the standard view rooms also offer the queen/ bunkbed combo? Thanks!

We're staying in the AKL a couple of days before and after our wedding and had originally planned to upgrade to a savannah room - but then with Disney making us stay there twice as many nights than we had planned we couldn't afford it so we just have a standard room booked. Has anyone managed a free upgrade when checking in? I'd love to have the whole savannah view - it is our wedding trip after all - and there's only two of us so a smaller room wouldn't be too much of a pain.

Love to hear your tips!

:)

We had a standard pool view room and I was surprised, but it had one Q bed with bunk beds. Perfect for my kids!
