Have decided to stay in a Savannah View Room at AKL in 2006 and have 4 days to stay. Does it really seem far away from Disney. Also, which floor and trail should I request? ::MinnieMo

If you mean is it far from MK, yes maybe in miles, but not in time. AKL is the only resort that doesn't share buses with other resorts. The transportation is wonderful. Also, you have to realize that they are trying to make you feel like you are on an African savannah and I don't think it would work with a castle in the background!

We prefer the Zebra trail because it it closer to the pool, food court, arcade, etc. We like the third floor because then you are looking directly at the animals instead of down at them, but you can see a wider expanse of the savannahs from the upper floors so its a trade off. We also prefer either of the smaller savannahs, Uzima & Sunset, as opposed to Arusha (the large savannah). When we were there in 2001 we heard several guests complain that on Arusha many of the animals were further from their rooms because of the size of the savannah. After walking around the resort, we agreed that it could be a problem. Last time we were on Uzima and loved it, but are requesting Sunset this time just to try something different

I really don't think you could go wrong even it you decided not to request anything! It is a wonderful resort and our favorite!

Have fun planning!

The bus service at the AKL is great. It is not shared with another resort. The longest trip is to the MK which usually takes about 15 minutes.

We always ask for the Arusha Savannah, Zebra Trail. That is the side of the lodge where the restaurants and pool are located. We always book a Deluxe Savannah room which are located on the 5th floor.

You'll love the AKL. We're going back for our 4th stay in December.

We just got back from AKL. And by the end of the week, it did seem like we were on the bus for a long time, but you know what, we felt like that when we stay at any non-monorail resort. AKL was beautiful and I am glad we tried it. AK is minutes away, MGM did not seem like a long bus ride and Epcot seemed a little bit longer, but nothing awful. The good thing, the bus stops to return to the hotel at Epcot and MGM are very close to the park entrance. At the end of the day, I was very much appreciating that. MK seemed longer, however, it seemed it depended on the time of day we were taking the bus. For instance, we took the bus to MK for an 8:05 breakfast reservation at CP and it only took us 12 minutes to get to the MK, because there was no traffic. Later in the day, it took longer because of the increase of traffic. Downtown Disney seemed like a longer bus ride as well. We thought the bus tranportation was fine, I wouldn't let it stop you from staying there. It is truly a beautiful resort. Have a great time.
