As not being from the US I am very confused about tipping when I arrive at resort. We will be staying at the WL and I was wondering who I am supposed to tip and how much. When I arrive at the resort should I tip the person who helps me get my bags out of the car or just the person who delivers it to my room? Also when I leave the resort should I tip the bellhop who gets my bags from my room or the one who brings it to my car?
Another probably dumb question is about valet parking. I haven't done it and actually are not planning on using it during our trip. What is the proper way to let them know that I will use self parking?

Welcome to the DIS, ChristianR!

I always tip both the bellhop to takes my luggage from the car, and the bellhop who delivers it to my room. And again, when I leave, I tip the bellhop who takes the luggage from my room, and the one who takes it to the car.

When we had a car at the Poly, we just drove directly to a parking sport without going near the main entrance. Most of the time, you probably won't even come in contact with the valet. If you are going to the main entrance to drop off other members in your family, if someone approaches, just tell them you don't need help.

Have a great trip!

Unfortunately, tipping in this country has become expected, but it is not mandatory. It is supposed to be for a job well done. So, if YOU feel the person you are going to tip isn't worth it (i.e. has given you an attitude, etc) do not feel obligated to give one OR you can give one for a much lesser amount than you intended. Don't forget, you have the option of taking the bags up to the room yourself. If you don't have many, this may be a better option for you.

As for valet, as the other poster wrote, if you're asked, you tell them "no, thank you, I'm parking it myself" and that's all that needs to be said. :)
