Not sure if this has already been posted here somewhere, but I have just heard that there was another accident on BTM yesterday evening at 8pm when the wheels on the last two cars came off the rails.
Don't know what section of the ride yet, or how fast it was going, but the ride will now be closed for inspection.

Thankfully only two people were slightly injured according to the newspaper report - one child hurt their knee, and one adult with back pain.
Thank God that it was not worse than that, but still very terrifying for those involved.

Glad nobody was seriously hurt. It's bad that the ride has now had 2 significant failures in the space of 6 months.

Any news on how long it will be shut for?

According to a CM on DCP this is what is affected

Google translation

The derailment happened in zone 5 that is to say, where you see two coyotes before descending into the curve that leads to the lift where the mine collapses. So I confirm that cars left the tracks and the wheels are not only that are broken but the first two cars left the tracks, the train took with him elements of the tracks.

:sad2:
There is a lot of damage and it's going to take some time before it reopens.

we went 23-26 oct and the wheels looked very shakey then in fact my dad even mentioned that he wasnt goin on btm cs of the wheels. In buzz land rc kept breaking down and i dont even think we managed to get 1 go in the whole time we were there hth

OMG - we are going to have meltdown city from ds as it will be closed for the whole visit when we go in 10 days!!!! How do I explain that to him? He has autism, but LOVES BTM - him and dh spend most of the time on there!

I know that's really selfish as the most important thing is that no-one was badly hurt!

I must admit that when I went on BTM a few times at the beginning of this month the last accident kept coming to mind, but I tried not to think about it!

Agree that it is a real shame for people going now, being such a popular ride, but I am so glad that no one was badly hurt or worse - it could have been a disaster.

Re-opening on the 14th November.

I'm not telling my DD that BTM won't be open the whole time we're there - good job POTC is open this trip (it wasn't in March) - oops have I just jinxed that as well do you think???

According to DCP following rigourous tests today with and without riders (CM's) there's a chance it might be open as early as tomorrow.

It won't stop me riding it in January :thumbsup2

When I saw this my spirits dropped thinking it would never be open again in time for my trip, and with SM being down as well was thinking maybe the trip wouldn't be quite worth it (taking The Boy, and it's his first Disney trip ever so wanted everything to be perfect) but if they're hoping that it'll be open by mid November, well, this is most excellent news! (As long as everything is safe:thumbsup2)

Now, back to excitement. :yay:
