Just got back from our trip and purchased a Wii, am a little worried about just plugging it in using a straightforward plug convertor due to the differing voltage. Has anyone else bought a Wii to use in the UK and if so did you have to purchase a new UK power pack for the Wii before using it.

Thanks very much in advance.

would of thought you would of needed a transformer because of the difference in voltage:confused3
sure someone will know to help you :)

i think you'd probably need a step up transformer because the voltage in the US is lower than it is here. you'll probably be able to pick one up easily from maplin or any other good shop like it.

I think what you need is a step down transformer, as UK voltage is much higher than US, I wouldn't plug it straight in as UK voltage is too high for the transformer. Will check this with DH later as he's the scientific geek! :scratchin

Forgive me if you already know this, but Wii games are region specific (UK TV is PAL and USA is NTSC) so you will need to buy US games for your Wii. :)

oops, sorry, i got it wrong, DH is the technical one and he's away on business. yeah it is a step down you need!

Also be aware that as it is NTSC the tv may not be compatible, I think most are these days but you never know. Yes also the games are region specific so will need to buy US games.

Claire ;)

let us know how u get on please

Have checked with my DG (DearGeek!!) and he says it's definitely a step down transformer you need. (Maplins sell them). He also says you may need a HDMI connector rather than the standard lead from the Wii to the TV.

However you wouldn't damage the Wii or TV if you tried with the standard connector lead, but you would if you used an unaltered UK power supply.

HTH!!! :goodvibes

we own a US Wii, and we have 220v power here (same as the UK). We use a transformer (can switch both ways, 110-240v, or 240-110v) which the Wii power cable plugs into, and then you need a NTSC tv to plug the Wii into - Pal wont work on ours.

You also must have US Wii games as the system is NTSC Region 1 and the Wii games sold in Europe are Pal and region 2.
