anolefan's mid week Trip Report

A challenge?

On behalf of my cousin Yuri, I accept!

The next time he illegally sneaks back into the country, I will bring him to the Fort and see if he can take care of this. The only problem is that I am not sure if there is access to this lookout anywhere.

Some other comments/questions on your report:

1. Nice job on snagging 1431. That is a very nice site. In fact, you probably don't know this, but Jay and Donna Howard, who most recently used to winter on site 301, first used to spend the winters on site 1431. It is one of the nicest sites at the Fort.

I did not know that. It is a very nice site.

2. The pulled pork flatbread sandwich has only been recently added to the take out menu. How did your mom like it?

She really enjoyed it. She has always like slaw on her pulled pork and was thrilled to have it on the menu.

3. Did you try any fishing in the canal behind 1431? DaveInTn caught some fish in that canal when he was in the 500 loop earlier this year.

I did not try it out. I went back and looked at his TR and saw the huge catfish he caught. I'll be giving it a try next time for sure.

4. Congratulations to your 'Noles. It is finally clicking for them. The second half of the season should be interesting.

Thank you, I am pretty excited. Hopefully there won't be a letdown this week with BC after such a big game.

5. Looking forward to more of your report.

Thanks, I'll post more after little league practice tonight.

Love your early morning photos! They almost make me want to get up at dawn when we're there next month.

Almost. :rolleyes1

Haha! It is definitely not for everyone. Between work and 3 little ones I was kind of forced into getting up early.

great job. I saw your set up at your site and stopped by but nobody was home. I think it was last Thursday or Friday. O well, another time

Looks like it is time for a new seat on the patrol boat.

:scared1: I'm just going to pretend this was one of those intentionally-done things that Disney does to make it appear weathered and beaten. Kinda like the village at AK...

Everything (else) looks so peaceful! Love the pix!

How in the world have I missed this TR until now??? GREAT photos!

I agree with you, early morning is the BEST time of day at the Fort. Followed by after dark. But the mornings are so peaceful, and your pictures show that peacefulness perfectly.

Oh come on, Monique. You should try it just once. It is truly magical to be able to hang around the Settlement when nobody else is around.

Now this is the easy way to get up on that balcony.

Cheater.

I'm not impressed.

Tom- you're still doing great. Looking forward to more.

Dang, I was wanting to meet you while we were there. A fellow NPR family :).

BTW I really like your setup and TV from your TR. Very nice indeed!

LOOKS like a great time.....I'd point your mom in the direction of a super nice class A...;)

HH:rolleyes1

My mom is really interested in a camper after this trip. I'll aim high just in case.;)

Great trip report thus far!

Thanks!

As far as I could tell that was the only one that was in that condition. It was parked closest to the shore though so maybe you are right :)

Thanks Dave I appreciate the comments. I ended up taking more pictures of just the Fort this time since the kiddies were at home.

Tom- you're still doing great. Looking forward to more.

Classic, I knew you would appreciate this picture.

I am admiring your powers of observation.

You remind me of a young TCD.

But with better photography skills.

We saw this guy walking off something for the upcoming construction. I asked him what he was doing and he skirted around it for a minute or two, then I told him what I knew from the great reporting here and he caved and agreed :). We chatted for a couple of minutes then we were on our way. He was very nice.

Hold on there partner!

Not so fast.

What, exactly, did this fellow tell you?

I have yet to figure out what they are doing across the canal.

And I just LOVE this view!

Up next, my last installment. Departure day photos of the Fort.

Great photo!

You have a nice zoom on that camera.

Thank you very much! I appreciate the kind words. I enjoy it and the Fort has endless opportunities. No matter how many pictures I take of the same areas there is always something that stands out more than the last. Now hopefully I won't let you down on my next response below.

When I asked what he was doing he said he was "getting measurements from the Fiber Optic Conduit that was laid there recently". I then asked if he knew what was being built and he would not say what he knew. That is when I told him what I heard about the DVC,Pavilion etc. That is all that he confirmed and made a joke about the "big announcement" that Disney made which turned out to be nothing. Sorry I don't have anything new to report.

Another great round of photos! :thumbsup2

I really love just seeing "scenery" photos from around the Fort from other times of the year. We generally only go late Oct/Nov/Dec and seeing the Fort so green and in bloom is a real treat.

Maybe some year I'll buy and air-conditioned body suit and venture down in the late summer/early fall. :upsidedow

I may just try it - once - no guarantees.

I'm betting I could talk DH into it.

The dogs on the other hand.... they like to sleep in and would probably not even crack open an eyeball if I crawled out of the camper before it was light out.

That is about 50 ft from where these guys were when I took this...
Florida_2010_day408.JPG

I find it curious that there would be Disney suits out checking the location for Fiber Optic Conduit. It looks like they had been doing some clearing in that area too (the undergrowth was quite a bit lower behind the golf cart). I agree that something else must have been going on. Maybe there will be some kind of pathway from Golden Oak to the marina area in the future?

Love the campsite pics, love the early morn pics, love the wildlife

Thanks Tom and Lisa-

Thanks for the info!

This has me confused.

Why would they need fiber optics here?

I will be visiting that side of the canal soon.
