:ccat: Im considering buying a Annual Pass because I'm going to Disney in January and I *MIGHT* be going back October 2007...

More than likely I will buy a Annual Pass IF there is a good room discount for January..

My question is can I purchase a Annual Pass the same day I would want to apply a room discount? Just wondering if you have to purchase in advance to get a discount because I dont want to have to wait when a code is released! :) thanks

Back in the spring on the day that AP rates were released for April to June, I called CRO and checked the AP rate; then I reserved my room/purchased my AP at the same time!

You can purchase your AP anytime but you have to have it to show at check-in (if they ask) if you book an AP rate.

Do you know if I'm going with relatives and staying in their room (with them but the room is in their name) can they still get AP room discounts since we're with them?

I believe the person with the AP has to have the reservation in their name. I also believe they have to be the ones paying for that reservation via their credit card.

Could someone clarify this if I am wrong. Thank you.

I'm in this situation and this is what I did. I made ressies for our Jan. trip and we are going to get the APs too. I wanted to book 2 rooms under my AP so they could get the room discount too and I asked the CM on the phone does it matter who pays for it when we check in and she said, "no". I paid for both room deposits under my credit card but I gave them my brother's information, and they said he could pay the balance with his credit card as long as I'm there to show the AP.

but it has to be in your name, right? they want to put it in their name for the magical express part.

the name of the passholder must be on the ressie, it doesn't matter "whose name" it is in per-say as long as the passholder's name is on... you would need to list all the guests that are in the room anyway
Anyone can pay the bill. At one time I want to say the passholder had to be the one that made the ressie & paid the deposit.. they were doing that when they had the BRP... and you booked online.

Do not base your decision to get an AP on a room discount. Disney states that any discounts can be discontinued at anytime. If you feel you will get your money's worth by going to the parks, then get the AP & consider any room discounts a perk.. because that is what it is, a perk..not a for sure thing. Many people were very upset with Disney last year when they started experimenting with the Best Rate Program.. there was an entire time frame where there were no discounts for AP holder... it was a "black hole".. so if you will use the AP enough times going to the parks, get it, if not.. do not get one...

What dates did you book in January? Did they have AP rates available for those dates when you booked? Or, are you waiting for a code to come out and planning on rebooking using the code?

TIA, Espana

Except for MLK weekend we have gotten very good AP rates in January the last 3 years or so at POP (49.00), akl savannah(155.00) and Poly for 219. I agree that they can be cancelled at any time, but we have always ended up with rates from ap we were happy with and if you think you are going twice in the same year it should be a good bet on ticket prices alone especially if you are going for a week or so each time.
