Annual Passes

We are heading to WDW in June for 7 nights and are staying off site. I normally do the FL resident seasonal passes, but this year 5 of our days are blacked out for those passes. I'm trying to avoid having to shell out $516 for each of 5 people for regular annual passes, but I can't figure out how to make it work. I looked at buying regular MYW tickets (with park hopper) and using those and then upgrading to the seasonal passes, however we would only need 3 day MYW passes to match the seasonal pass price and 3 day tickets won't be enough to cover all of our days at the parks. Is there something I'm missing that we can do or are we spending a ton of money just to get into the parks?

I'm not very familiar with the Seasonal Pass since I'm not a Florida resident, but I would be surprised if Disney would let you upgrade a MYW ticket used on blackout dates to a full Seasonal Pass. It seems like a loophole that is closed for other types of tickets (e.g., can't upgrade a MYW with used Water Park admission to a regular AP).

If you are sure you can upgrade to a seasonal pass, I would just buy the 5/7 day MYW ticket and upgrade to the seasonal pass. You'd lose some money but won't spend as much as purchasing a full AP. But I'd definitely call Disney and ask if this is something you can do if I were you.

Not sure if this helps but my mother was able to upgrade a 2 day ticket that was used during blackout dates to a FL seasonal pass with no issues last week.

Sorry, don't mean to hijack this thread but we are in a similar situation if we ever wanted to go so that we would be there on Christmas day. In our case, we purchase the FL Residents Weekday pass, so we are blocked out from about Dec 17 to the end of the year. We go several times a year, but usually only go for 4 nights.

So, I assume you would actually have to use the purchased tickets to get into the parks for the desired number of days, THEN upgrade to the desired pass?

You can upgrade a ticket used during blackout dates to a FL seasonal passes. We just did it in December. :) We bought 4 day tickets and traded them in on our last day.
I'm don't see a way around your problem though, sorry! Might be worth it to just get regular FL APs, depending on how the math works out.

Yes.
We arrived Dec 18, bought 4 day tickets. Went to the park for 3 days and upgraded them to seasonal passes as we left on day 3 at guest relations at Epcot. It was easy peasy. :)

It gets a little complicated. However, you can upgrade a partially used MYW ticket to a Resident Seasonal or Weekday Select pass.

1. If it was used on a blockout day and the day you are making the upgrade is not a blockout day there is no problem.

2. If it was used on a blockout day and you attempt to do the upgrade on the same blockout day that you used the ticket you cannot do the upgrade.

3. If it was or was not used on a blockout day, and the day you want to do the upgrade is a blockout day, you can do the upgrade as long as you did not use it to enter a Park that day.

This seems to contradict the experience that the previous poster had when upgrading.

OP, I can't think of any way around your problem other than moving your trip up by 2 days.
