How does the annual pass work. If I purchase one on say December 5, 2003, when would it be good to December 5, 2004?

I believe an Annual Pass expires one year from the date of purchase. If you purchase an Annual Pass on Dec, 5 of this year, then yes, it will expire on Dec. 5 2004. So technically, the last day of use would be Dec. 4. 2004 thru midnight, expiring on Dec. 5th, 2004.

Please don't confuse this with Annual Pass vouchers. Vouchers need to be turned in for an actual Annual Pass, then the clock starts ticking, one year from activation.

Hope this helps,
Michelle

We bought our AP's on May 26 and they say good through May 26. That way you get a full year and even a little bit more.

Ooops! Sorry I gave incorrect info. I'm buying AP this year for the first time, and I thought I knew everything down pat! Sorry again...

If you buy AP's at your local Disney Store or order them over the phone, you will get an AP Voucher. The voucher must be exchanged at the parks for your actual AP. The AP is good for one year from the date of exhange, not the date you purchased the voucher. If you buy them at the parks, the expiration will be one year from that date.

Why would you purchase them at a Disney Store or over the phone and get a voucher, then have to exhange them for a voucher when you arrive at the park? Doesn't sound more convenient. Is there a discount or something else I'm missing?

Doing it that way protects you from unexpected price increases.

I have a question about renewing the AP. We activated ours on June 7th of this year and now it looks like we will be returning to Disney about a week later next year. How will the renewal work?

I actually just asked a similar question to a Disney rep a week ago. In order to get the renewal price discount, you must renew on or before the expiration date of your current pass. Otherwise, it's like buying a "new" annual pass.

You will get a letter in the mail about a month before expiration and it will give information on how to order your renewal pass.

You will find that the Guest Relations folks at the parks are a little more lenient than the people on the phone. ;) Under most circumstances, they will allow you to renew your AP even if it is a week or two past the expiration. They will however still back date the renewed AP to your old expiration date.

Another reason that folks prepurchase AP vouchers besides the protection against price increases is the ability to spread out the cost of the passes. Some folks find it difficult to come up with $1000 or more all at one time when they get to WDW but have no problem buying one AP at a time before their trip.

I think Disney probably sells more AP vouchers for this reason than any other.

Our trip is next june/july and i bought our AP's yesterday when making a room reservation. This way, they'll be paid for WAY before I even get there! The only thing I hate is that before I even check in,I'm going to have to go to a park to activate my passes.(providing we get the room discounts that AP's usually generate)

99.9999% of the time, the resort check-in agents don't even ask to see your Annual Pass when you check in with an AP rate. If they do ask, you can show them your AP voucher and that will work. If the agent is really picky, you will be asked to show your activated AP within 24 hours of checking in.

So you will NOT have to stop by a park before checking in.

Airhead- You don't have to activate the AP before you check in. If they ask for it, you are allowed some time (24 hours I think) to show it before they charge the rack rate. So you can check in and wait to activate the AP on your first park visit.

I had reservations using AP code at Coronado springs last week. On the reservation letter, it clearly indicated that I must show my annual pass at check in.

I get to the desk, hand over my registration form, credit card, and AP. She hands my AP back to me, asking what is this for.

I would have no concerns about not having an activated AP at check in.

One word of caution. If you buy a AP as a upgrade from another discount ticket, the time for the AP starts the day you used the other ticket.
Example: we bought FL Resident discount tickets and then upgraded to AP. It was back dated to the first time we used the original ticket.

Getting AP's for the first time this year. Do you really have to go to customer service and activate the pass to check in? You can't check in with the voucher?
