Annual Pass?

With the upcoming demise of Disney Club, was thinking of blowing for a premium annual pass...Thought maybe this would give us a comparable room rate on site to the old discount. Remembering we are in Kansas and would only likely go twice a year at the most...what are your thoughts?

Is there a general rule of thumb for rack rate discounts to AP holders?

Would we make ourselves take more trips because we have an AP?:jester:

Are there other discounts for AP that I'm not thinking of?

Is this the right board?

Many thanks!!!

Uhhh, yeah. NOt that that is a bad thing.

If you go twice a year anyway, as long as you are in the parks 8 days or more, the AP is a good idea. You also get free parking at all the parks and a 10% discount on sit down EPCOT restaurants for lunch as well as at World of Disney in DTD and some other stores and restuarants there.

Discounts generally run about 40% off rack rate, but it's not guaranteed you would get one.

Thanks for the input! Always willing to go to WDW as many times as it takes!

Hoped that the onsite discounts will make us miss Disney Club less.

(always want to be the "cool" crowd:smooth:

The AP discounts are far better than DC discounts. However AP discounts only come out a few months ahead of discounted periods and AP discounts are not guarenteed to even come out year round.

As stated above if you go at least 8 days the AP is definetly worth it.

Oh yeah!! LOL my family and I had ONE trip planned last Sept. We went for 9 days.

DH and I went for 4 days earlier this month.

Entire family is going for 9 days in April

And just planned a 7 day trip for DD and I in Aug before school starts.

I figure I may as well make the most of this year. My luck I'll never get to WDW again.

Just FYI - there is about $120 difference between an annual pass & a premium annual pass. If you do water parks a lot, then splurge for the PAP, but if you don't think you'll go at least about 4 or 5 times to the water parks you may be better off with the regular AP's.

I am pretty sure you get the same discounts (someone correct me if I'm wrong). We had PAP's & loved them, but will get the AP's this time because we didn't feel we got the value out of the water parks with them. We have many hoppers plus passes left that have a lot of "pluses" on them, so we will use those up & if we need to buy a 1 day ticket we will do so at that time.

Anyway, after a long & winded response  I just wanted to point that out. :)

There are no blackout days on the Florida Resident AP/PAP's. The only WDW pass that has blackout days in the Florida Resident Seasonal Pass.

Premium Annual Passes are great in my opinion. It allowed us to go to parks whenever we wanted to. Then at night we would go to Pleasure Island and DisneyQuest. We figured we saved tons, not including the great room rates at the All Star Music.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the great replys, think this is what I will blow my mad money on, then tell DH we need to go at least 3 times a year! ;)

We sat through the DVC presentation, think for us the passes will be a better deal, since we would have to by passes anyway, and we spend most of the time in the parks, so any room is good.

PAPs are definitely the best way to go, in my opinion. It's a great feeling to know that you can come and go as you please anywhere in WDW.

We just renewed our annual passes last month, and saved an additional $35 on each. You also get the following discounts:

*Save 10% at World on Disney in downtown disney
*Save 15% on a variety of backstage tours
*Save 50% on mini golf(15% for any guests you bring)
*Save 10% on spa treatments at the Grand Floridian
*Save 30% on golf during certain times of the year
*Free admission to O-Rays baseball games at World of Sports
*Save 10% on Richard Petty Driving Experience
*Save 15% on marina boat rentals
*Save up to 20% on Alamo or National rental cars

So with the hotel discounts, food discounts, and all of the above we figured out that if you use it more than 6 days you save money. We stayed on property last summer for 16 days and saved enough to pay for almost 3 annual passes! Now we make up reasons to head to Orlando so we can use our passes. Our family and friends think we are rich! We are just thrifty and do Disney on a budget. Hope you have a great time, and watch the Sunday paper travel section for discount codes as well. That is how we saved during the week of Christmas!
