I am in the early stages of planning a trip to Universal Orlando for early June '07. We are a family of three, two adults and one child who is considered and adult. I was thinking about staying on-site for 3 nights and having 4 park days. My question is, would it be worth it for one of us to get an annual pass to get the discounts on the hotel? If I got the AP,I would get the $85 tickets for DH and DS. Since we are only going to be staying 3 nights, would it be chaper to buy the cheaper tickets and suck up the full rates on the hotel rooms?

Mods, feel free to move this to the hotel board if you think its more appropriate.

I would buy one AP for the discounts if you are staying onsite. You could then take advantage of discounts on food and shopping as well as your hotel. If you have a AAA card you could get similar discounts but the AP discount is usually greater.

I would definitely go the AP route due to the deep hotel discounts (we got club level PBH for $259/night), as well as the food and retail purchase discounts. If you aren't planning on coming back next year I would get 1 AP and then get the $85 deal for the remaining members of your party.

Oh (::shudder:: :)) First of all, never pay the rack rate for the room if it can be avoided. But I wouldn't make any final decision until you know which rate - AP or AAA - you'll end up with and that might not be until much closer to your dates.

We're in the same position planning a February trip. Right now we have PBH booked with AAA and bought two $85 tickets (for the three of us). If we end up switching the hotel to AP rates we'll buy one AP which also gets the other great discounts as noted previously. If we stay with the AAA rates we'll probably buy another $85 ticket or whatever the best deal is on a ticket later on.

Do you buy the AP online? I read that you can put APH into the codes for the hotels and it will give you the AP rate? Is the right?

you can plug in codes in all day. in the end, you have to have the ID or AP itself for the discounts.

APH = good rates, just do the math. you can buy the AP online.

do they offer ap discounts over easter weekend - we are looking at that weekend - any other ways to drop the rate that weekend?

Thanks
Leslie
