Hey guys! My 9 year old son and I decided to leave a day early for a church trip and just booked one night at the Poly to arrive the night before my husband and his church group come in for 2 nights at the AStars. The church trip is booked through group ressies and all and is completely unrelated.

What I am hoping to do is take my son's and my 1 day MK tickets and upgrade them to annual passes when we arrive at the Poly. How does that work with our magic bands we will have that trip? We have chosen colors and they will ship next month. (We arrive June 19.) Will we keep those magic bands to use the rest of the weekend with our AStar stay?? Or will they give us another type of card or band to use??

1 - The current MB will immediately "know" that that ticket has become an AP.

2- Yes.

3- (And/or, you might be given others bands, too. All will work.)

Just to keep things as clear as possible-

There is no reservation info, or ticket info, or credit card info,
or FP+ info "put onto" a MagicBand.

The MagicBands just contain a unique serial number that is used
to access the information that is stored in your MyDisneyExperience computer file.

So, even if you were to lose a MagicBand, the info stays locked in your file.
Disney can just set up a new band (different serial number)
to access the info in your MDE file.
Disney can also issue ADDITIONAL MB's to a guest and each
additional band can be used for the same purposes as the first band.
So, yes, there can be multiple MB's per person, and each fo them can be used by that person.

The MagicBand works like the combination to a locked safe, or a key to a locked door.

Why does this distinction matter?
Because there is so much fear about losing bands and,
in turn, losing all of a guest's information thought to be on the band.

The MB, itself, is not the file of info or the container of the info.
The MB just unlocks the file of info, allowing it to be accessed when needed.

You will wind up with a lot of MagicBands! One from each reservation (totaling 2) and one for the AP. You can use all of the magicbands interchangeably once they are linked to the account in MDE.

This is such great info! I never thought of it that way! Makes perfect sense! So, will the color we pick for this trip be what we use all year when we go on other trips or will we re-pick colors and bands?

Wow! Really??? Will we get to pick the colors?

2. or will we re-pick colors and bands?

1. It can be.

2. If you get more bands, they will all continue to work for up to 2.5 years, or more. (Then, the internal batteries will go dead.)

If you have the order visible on the Disney World website, then yes. When you upgrade to an AP you should see a MagicBand order appear. You can then pick the color and put a name inside it.

I'm not very sure about the All Star reservation because it sounds like the reservation is under a different name. That might be a little weird with the MagicBand initially but the front desk should be able to link everything correctly if you explain your situation. That one will probably be just the gray one if that's the case.

.

Just to clarify on the AP... you won't get a MagicBand at WDW when buying an AP. Sometime after your AP is activated, a band order will show up in MDE to be shipped to you (if you live in the USA.)

Since you are at a resort he will have a band anyway, so once you upgrade his ticket the band will work as an AP.

AP Holders can elect to buy a MagicBand if they really want one for their first visit. That's what we just did yesterday for my daughter.

Welcome! And they are everywhere with folks standing outside stores holding them to show you.

Wow!! That is crazy! I didn't see those at all in January! Guess I won't miss them now!

Random question- I have one from my January trip that I adored and decorated so cute with polka dots and clear glow in the dark paint and all. Can I bring it back and re-use it to have it connected to my annual pass?? Will they even allow that?

1- They weren't there to see. They were not available for sale in January.

2- Yes.

3- Yes.

You don't deal with the MagicBand, specifically.
You just connect your AP with your MDE account and the MB will then be able to access that AP.
As long as you have not had a previous MB "deactivated" it will still work at the parks
with whatever ticket(s) you have active in your MDE account.
