If you buy passes for your family before a child turns 3 what's the rule after they turn 3? Do you have to buy them their own pass even though the expiration date will be off from the rest of the family's?

Yes, you have to buy them a pass. If your pass expires close enough to their birthday it might be worth it to use regular tickets until they catch up.

Yep. Must get them a pass. My twins are 2 1/2 and we purposefully let our passes lapse this year and didn't renew partly because their passes would have had different dates than the rest of us otherwise.

Yep. Dh and I expire in August and our son in Oct. It's a little annoying, but not terribly so.

If the pass makes sense for the trips for the child and you aren't renewing, I'm not sure how it actually changes anything.

If you ARE renewing, it makes it financially less of a hit to do it without it being everyone all at once!

Once they turn three they need an admission ticket. If you’re a casual AP holder (like my family) then you may need to consider the cost of the AP and how many more days you will be visiting. It could be cheaper to buy tickets. We purposely planned our next trip to make sure it doesn’t overlap with anyone turning three within that 12-month period. We’re going about 3-months before baby turns two, so our passes will expire about 3-months before she turns three. If you’re a local or a yearly AP holder then it probably makes the most sense to just buy the AP, especially if you’re going to continuously renew your passes. A one day ticket is around $100 (more if you park hop), a DAP is around $600, so 6 one day trips would make buying the AP a better deal. But two three day trips would be slightly cheaper to just buy admission tickets. Just consider all your options and how many more visits are in your AP.

Any guesses on if they will change up passes again? Our youngest turns 3 in January and I will be really bummed if we can't get her onto the same type of pass/blackout dates (We'll likely get her a Deluxe to align with ODD and DH's blackout dates). I'm just wondering if I should buy it now and not activate it until her birthday (if that's even an option)

They've allowed kids turning 3 to get So Cal passes if the family has that level. But if they were to change pass types again, you may not be able to get deluxe. Of course, if that were the case I'm sure you apply the deluxe voucher to whatever replaces it, but it is something to think about.

You can buy it now and activate it later. Many people buy in advance.
