Annual pass room discounts?

Yes, but many times, especially on the Deluxe resorts, they do not offer a discount on standard rooms...the annual passholders discounts available seem to be shrinking..I've had little luck the last few years except at the value resorts...good luck!

As above poster stated Disney will tell you yes that is a perk of having the AP but we have had our AP for several years and even though I am really flexible on rooms and times that we travel I have never been able to get an AP discount. That has been at the Deluxe hotels and like anything else at Disney YMMV.

I was thinking about going end of April, beginning of May, and then again in the middle of Sept. I was planning on staying at a value, and wondered if they offered anything with the AP.

Have been an AP holder since 2003 and we have always been able to get an AP discount at any resort we wanted no matter when we were going. Even snagged one during Spring Break once. However, this was the first trip that we were unable to get an AP at the Deluxe of our choice and we were looking at 4 of them. And the discounts have been getting smaller and smaller. So while is is a "perk", its not near the perk it once was.

If Disney does offer a room discount with the AP, would it be offered after I bought it, or after it was activated?

You can always call to inquire about AP room discounts -- whether you have an AP or not. You can book an AP discounted room without actually having the AP. You just need to show your AP at check-in or shortly thereafter (although sometimes they don't ask to see it -- my experience is 50-50). Again, my experience, but I have found that I cannot access AP discount pricing on Disney's website until the AP is activated.

We've had AP for a while now. We've stayed on an AP discount a lot of times. Never had any problems with getting a room with an AP discount either. They seem to be very plentiful lately.
On avg, I've found the AP discount to be about 5 or 10% more than the GP discount, just to give you a ball park figure to guess at the nightly rate.
I've even found that we can find an AP room even when the GP rooms are gone, which we did at BoardwalkInn last Friday night.
We've stayed in just about every resort on property since getting our AP (except for the Villas) and have not one time had to show our AP upon check in, even the first time when I booked with just a voucher, hadn't activated the AP yet.

One year into our APs any my experience is very similar to @AngiTN above. Very much agree with everything she said. We usually need to plan somewhat late and it has really helped in being able to be flexible with our plans and still (usually) getting a reasonable discount.

We've always been able to get AP discounts and we usually book 3 rooms at a time. We've stayed at all levels of resorts and in the cabins at Ft. Wilderness. Got discounts on all of them.

We have used AP discounts during both of those times you mentioned. Usually the public discount comes out first and then the AP rate comes out later and is 5-10% more off. You can get some great deals if you are flexible on which resort. However, I don't think the value resorts are much different from the public discounts.
