Annual pass replaced with Membership for DL and AP returning by October

So what was the point of getting rid of DL original AP? To add in park reservation requirements and upcharge for parking?
A big yes on the reservations. I guess parks won't fill up with people just dropping by after work anymore.

The original Annual Pass program in Southern California was way oversold. It led to significant overcrowding, especially in the late afternoons and evenings. The multi-tiered system will likely level out enrolment in the program and will force people to plan ahead. That will allow DL to manage capacity better.

No more just popping in to try to snag Star Wars queue placements either. That's a big plus right?

So are these passes sold in limited quantities?

They can in theory still sell the exact amount of passes they had previously, whereas they could have accomplished this exact same thing by just implementing a park reservation system like they did in FL, not renewing existing passholders and bumping them to this program at expiration.

No, they'll sell as many as they can. They'll just limit reservations.

So my question still stands, why cancel all the originals when they could have just limited reservations?

"Magic Keys" sound better? Rebranding synergy crud. It's basically same stuff but I can see the rebranding opportunity with rolling out a reservation system.

That's what I understood it to mean. Now how easy is it going be to book reservations? Sounded like WDW it was tough to get in all the parks but that was maybe due to COVID restrictions?
We are WDW AP holders, but we are out-of-state and always stay on-site, so we were able to use resort guest status to make park reservations, which was much better than what local AP holders could do. I know many people here have posted about limited park reservation availability, especially before WDW began to increase capacity over the last few months. I think this is the great "mystery" surrounding APs and now the magic keys. You just don't know how much availability Disney will provide or how they divide that among the three reservation groups.

I'm out of state too. I just can't even imagine spending the money to go on a vacation and then not be able to go to all the parks?!

We’ve been out of state DL and WDW AP holders and are waiting impatiently for them to open up WDW APs again. I’m going to be pretty annoyed if we only get a few reservations AND have to use them on park hopping. That works out to only 3ish days if you park hop every day (like we did at DL).

I'm thinking you'll get proportionately more reservations being that WDW has more parks. I'm pretty sure you'll see something pretty similar to the DL version though.

It will be interesting to see if FL restructures their AP program to be like magic keys how they will equate to the present tiers … I’d assume
Platinum/Platinum Plus (anyone) >> Dream
Gold (FL Residents/DVC) >> Believe
Silver (FL Resident) >> Enchant
FL Resident Select>> Imagine

If they do a similar copy of Disneyland's for Disney World, I'm actually ok with it. I was actually thinking WWAAAYYYYYYY WORSE!!. Disney has trained me to take it as a win and give them my money hahahaha. Plus I like the "Magic Keys" name association.
