Annual Pass renewal using park hopper ticket from free dining

My wife and I purchased AP’s in April (first timers) when I saw Star Wars Race would be in early April next year. We have free dining in late September with our two sons and have a couple of questions. I know I can use our two tickets next April to renew and that they expire at end of this year but still will get the value of purchased ticket. How do you make sure the ticket isn’t used and what do you get to show proof of ticket for when you renew. Thanks in Advance

Move the tickets to a ticket saver/fake profile in your MDX account before you enter a park in September.
