Annual Pass Renewal Question

Every single time I've renewed one of our APs it has generated a magic band order. That way we can order a band and it will come with the new slider. When I renewed my pass in March I got a new band with a 2015 slider. I renewed my son's AP last month, linked the confirmation to his MDE account, chose his fastpass+ attractions, but it didn't generate a magic band order for him. So I called Disney and they are telling me that because I renewed his pass over the phone and not online he is not eligible to order a magic band. He has to first come to the park and present his renewal certificate and then he can order a magic band. Is this correct? If so then that means my son won't get a 2015 magic band and slider until we are already back home and our trip is over. That doesn't make any sense. And why does Disney care if an AP is renewed over the phone versus online? The castmember said they can't "verify his identity over the phone" because it could be anyone. Ok, if that is true then why would his identify be more verifiable online? Couldn't that also "be anyone" as she put it? I finally hung up because I was exhausted trying to discuss this. Please someone explain all of this to me in a way I can understand. :faint:

The magic band should be available after the renewal is activated. We renewed our AP's over the phone in the spring. We got a will call number to put into my MDE account to use for making FP+ reservations and the renewal vouchers were mailed to me. The AP's were not actually activated until we stopped at guest services to turn in the renewal vouchers and get our actual RFID annual passes.

After physically activating the new AP's at guest services, we could order new magic bands.

Yes I did receive a renewal certificate in the mail. But I had already linked the pass using the confirmation number they gave me over the phone. And that allowed me to immediately choose his fastpass attractions. So isn't his AP already active since the new year begins on the last day of his renewal? Which was May 26th. I don't understand why renewing online generates a magic band order but renewing over the phone doesn't???

I called earlier today about my DH's AP Magic Band. His DME showed where it had been renewed but we could not order the Magicband online or over the phone. CM advised we could not order his MB until after the voucher has been activated at one of the parks. I will wait to order my AP MB (AP was renewed before 24 hrs event) when his has been activated. Our upcoming trip in September includes our grandkids (non AP) so we will just order ours together.

The AP still needs to be activated at guest services. You can order a magic band after that.

I renewed our FL Resident Annual Passes on-line and was able to customize the new MagicBands immediately. This was all done back on 5/15 before our pass expiration date of 6/1. I received our new MagicBands and AP Discount Cards on 6/1.
