Annual Pass Renewal Cards - question about activating them

We've had annual passes for years but never renewed before. We usually let them expire and take a few months off. This time we renewed over the phone and we were sent two plastic renewal cards we need to take to guest services. Our current AP runs out about 2 days into our next trip. If we turn in the renewals cards at guest services on our first day of the trip (my preference) will it "activate" it too early? In other words will that cause me to lose 2 days off the next pass and should I wait until the exact day it expires?

Regardless of when you activate, the renewal will extend your current pass by 1 year.
