If I purchase an AP say today, does it expire 1 year from today or 1 year from the first day of use??? Hope that makes sense.

Originally my plan was to buy 2 7-day base tickets for myself and my DS (3). I am now thinking of getting us AP's because no doubt I will want to go back next year :) . Not sure what the best option would be for us. I understand you get free parking even if staying off-site and possible room discounts any other good reasons why I should buy AP's????

What would you do???

It depends. If you order it online and it is sent to your home then you have a voucher and is not activated yet.

Once you get to Disney or if you are at disney and purchase one then it is good for 1 year from that day - the day it is activated. If you buy it there today but don't use it for 2 days it doesn't matter, it is good today since you activated it today.

Be sure to do the math when doing APs, with the new Magic Your Way tickets I do believe the break even point for APs is now about 15 days.

I don't know about the free parking but room discounts are possible although not guaranteed. Rumor has it they will be few and far between with the popularity of the new Magic Your Way.

So again do the math and see what works better for you. IF you know you will go down again before it expires and you are getting oh 12+ days or so out of it at least then it might be a good deal. But do the math.

Does anyone know if you get free parking with the AP?? What about park hopping is that included as well??

Parking is included, just show the pass at the booth..... and hopping is allowed. Both excellent ways to say money right away.

Plus you get discounts on tours, some places to eat, and some of the shops in DD, including World of Disney.

Have fun :earsboy:

You do get free parking with an annual pass. You will also get park hopping - in the four major parks (MK, AK, Epcot & MGM) with a regular annual pass. If you go with the Premium annual pass, you can also hop into the water parks, Disney Quest, Wide World of Sports, and Pleasure Island.

I'm not sure about parking but park hop all you want. we bought our at disney store at home. I suggest if you by at home save your reciept and take it with you to wdw. If you lose your vouchers by some mishap you can use your reciept to get your passes. :wave2:

When first buying your AP your rate will be higher than renewing your AP.
There are some discounts -- some meals are discounted (although VERY limited). AP holders also receive a discount at WoD in DTD.
Yes, discount on the tours. I booked a Segway tour for two with a 15% discount.
AP holders also receive a Mickey Monitor 4 times a year.
You MAY receive a AP disount room rate. But that is not guaranteed.
Rather than the MYW meal plan, AP holders can buy a DDE meal discount card for $50. (Which is 20% discount most any place at any time on property.)
There are perks. Nothing guaranteed, as everything is always subject to change either for good or bad. Just make sure you will save money.

And having an AP can cost you in other ways as well....

It appears that we will be making 4 trips within a calendar year.... and that is from Canada!

Not a bad thing..... but I am quite sure it wouldn't have happened without the AP!

If you buy a voucher, it will expire a year from the day you have it converted into an actual ticket.

If you actually buy the AP ticket, it will expire a year from the day it is purchased.

So I want to be sure I am looking at this right... If I buy my regular AP from the WDW site it is only $395.00 right????? Is that the best deal?

Yes it is. There are no deals or discounts available on buying APs except to DVC members or through Shades of Green (millitary discount). There are also Florida resident APs that cost less.

Also remember that any WDW pass of any kind bought anywhere in the US will be charged 6.5% Florida sales tax; this brings the total cost of an adult standard AP to $420.68.

(copied from another post)
With park hopping, the break even between the annual pass and regular tickets is 12 days.

Without hopping you can buy two 10 day expiring passes for less than the cost of one AP.

When the actual new AP is issued (at Guest Relations if not at the Orlando Airport Disney Store) verify that the expiration date is a full year away. Once in awhile a mistake is made.

When renewing AP's at the discount price, "membership is continuous". Depending on your vacation plans you may find it better not to renew but instead buy new AP's when needed.

This is sort of a off shoot question of the above question. I currently have the preimum ap for me and my son. For the most part I like this option for convience even if we don't hit the break even point. It's nice to be able to get up in the morning and know you can go where ever you want in the parks/water parks/DQ..etc...

Anyway, my question is on the renewing cost of the pass. Does anyone have any idea how much cheaper it is to renew the preimum pass vs. it's current cost?

Oh, and what the heck changed on the boards? My ticker is all scrambled now.

An adult Premium Annual Pass Renewal is $495.25 for adults and $420.69 for kids.

HTML was shut off on the boards for security so countdowns won't work anymore! :(

Thanks, for the prices. Seems higher than I though it would be though. That's as much as I paid for our preium passes last year. Oh well, prices go up I suppose. :sad2:

If I understand it correctly, another AP perk is the ability to purchase a Disney Dining card for $75 and get a 20% discount on just about all restaurants and counter service places, including alcoholic beverages. Depending on how many meals you eat out and how many people are eating, (up to 10 on a card) it seems like that would save a lot on meals.
