Annual Pass question

Wondering if I buy an annual pass online can u go straight to the gate to get in the first time there.

As long as you have gotten the actual card in the mail, you can go straight to the gate. If you have not, you need to bring the order confirmation email to the ticket booths and get a card that way.

When I got mine I was able to go to the gate. They gave me a paper ticket to use in the park, but told me I had to go to the ticket booth by the end of the day to get my card.

Yes you can go straight to the gate in the morning but you will have to visit the ticket booth at some point during your first day to get the actual AP card.

As PPs have said, as long as you have printed out your eTicket, you can go straight to the gate. They will exchange your print-out for a temporary ticket (it'll be one the standard credit card sized tickets that they issue). You can use that during the day, but you will eventually need to go to one of the ticket booths to exchange that for your actual AP. Once you have that, you will need to find a Photopass photographer and have your photo taken (unless you already have one in the system from a past AP).

I didn't know if you are a DVC member or not, but if you are you can't get your DVC discount online. And you can't get it back at the window after the fact either. I found this out the hard way after getting misinformation from Disney CMs on the subject.
