Annual Pass Purchase

I feel that way too! We were regular passholders my daughter and I. We would visit staying at a Disney resort at least 4 trips a year minimum. We also did not renew after our last trip but went in August and November of 2020 and enjoyed resort only stays. I too feel a little bugged by this! Especially when I have friends whi just renewed!!

Just an FYI - they will make case by case exceptions to the no-new-AP rule. You need to call, be polite and don't assume or feel entitled to anything, and cross your fingers. They will take your information and call you back later (it can be several weeks later). It doesn't hurt and I had a friend whose pass had expired well before the lockdown and she was able to get a new one in this way last fall. You can also try going in person to Guest Services at Disney Springs. But again, nothing is definite, and if you are a jerk about it, they have no reason to break the rules for you...

Why is DIsney allowing Annual Pass renewal but not allowing a new purchase?

Likely because with limited attendance, they would rather sell tickets. They don't want annual passholders filling the parks and squeezing out ticketbuyers.

I would speculate that the bulk of annual passholders are Florida residents who don't spend as much, stay offsite more often, ect.

Annual passes will eventually return as park capacity increases.

I LOVE this advice!! Should I call or try in person st Disney Springs in July. We are moving to Florida in 11 months. I can't imagine the thought of living less than an hour from Disney and not being an AP holder.
I wouldn't get your hopes up- we called, emailed, dropped (twice) and were kind, polite, did everything right but nothing. (I even dropped in on my actual 40th birthday as it was the day we happened to be there)

For a bit people were also saying that you could sometimes convince them to let you have a gold pass if you were a newer DVC member, which we are, and no luck. It's for people who turned 3 or whose pass expired March 2020 or later. Most of the reports on these boards from people who say they got to buy a new one- upon questioning it's figured out that they actually expired during COVID and no exception was made.

If my passes expired in December of 2019, do you think they would make an exception?
